There is a 1995 W124 300 diesel on ebay that I am interested in and the man selling has given it quite a write-up regarding its condition and servicing, but what do you think of the coolent reservoir? It is mucky brown. Is that rust from the rad or worse?Either way it signifies neglect?
Sorry don't know how to link to it,but if you can find it would appreciate some advice about it.
"1995 mercedes e 300" finds it in ebay search

I think the coolant i orange coloured.

Nice car, shame its low on spec.

I don't think you can draw any useful conclusion about this car from the colour of the header tank in a photo

Looks like a genuine car, a very detailed description aswell, just because the coolant is not blue doesnt mean its been neglected, could be the pink type?

Thanks all. Just had email from seller;he tells me he has used "high grade" Comma coolent. Some of this stuff is red.It might be the my monitor's colour is out.He said it has been serviced by a Merc indie: H.A. Lock & Son,Rushden.Seller says he has not kept the receipts for work done though.Anyone used the above indie?
Thanks again

Pammy that's the link, yes.I'll have to learn how to do that!

That's correct, it's the 5 year life product and is very good. They do Blue 2 year, Green three year and red 5 year.
I hadn't had chance to post a reply but had noticed the coolent looks nice and clear which indicates regular changes.

To be fair from the sellers decription the car sounds good, but it's overpriced for the low spec.

Would I buy it? At the right price almost certainly. You really can't beat an OM606 engine for reliability and durability.

Simple - copy the url from the web browser and paste into your message;) :D

I bought my 1995 M E300 Diesel from eBay earlier this year for £2500.

On the upside it has leather, electric seats, air conditioning and full MBSH.

On the downside it has a small amount of rust on the edge of two wings and the boot lid, and it had 106,000 miles (now 113,000).

The one on eBay is in outstanding condition which fully supports the claimed mileage. I think it is worth every penny of £3600.

If I was interested in buying that type of car then it certainly seems very worthy of consideration. Never trust photographs and never take the word of a seller. Having said that those pictures certainly do the vehicle a lot of credit. Shame about the low spec, but that is countered by the possible TLC shown in the pictures?

Good luck
John

The famous Mr Lock.....if he's been servicing it really has been looked after.....Looks like a goodie.

The wheels don't look genuine.

They don't look like fakes to me. Most of the fakes have very soft edges to the cutouts. They look like once-refurbed MB alloys

If I were interested in it I'd be in the car on my way over there and not discussing it on an Internet forum!

To be fair, the OP is trying to make use of the vast resources of experience available on this forum. Isn't that what it's here for?

Slightly overpriced I recon, but if you want a nice car it should not matter too much.
Personally I'd be bidding on it and not using the Buy-it-now option. Might get a bargain...
