MB coolant is the only thing that should be used in these engines. Probably not done any harm but if you do buy it, change it for the real stuff asap.
Looks like a very nice car but perhaps just a tad expensive?
That's correct, it's the 5 year life product and is very good. They do Blue 2 year, Green three year and red 5 year.
I hadn't had chance to post a reply but had noticed the coolent looks nice and clear which indicates regular changes.
.
Yes, but the anti-freeze is clearly orange from the photo. I've got some of the Comma 5 year stuff and it's pinkish read when diluted.I hope he back flushed the cooling system first as these modern OAT (organic acid technology) coolants don't mix with the traditional blue glycol types. The only exception would be a HOAT type (hybrid OAT) but these seem to be found mainly in America. In fact BMW don't recommended them because they will cause a chemical reaction and foaming unless the system is fully drained before use. BMW have traditionally preferred a small silicate content for lubrication purposes ( a debatable point ) but these new OATS are silicate free. However, MB do recommend them as they are now the factory fill these days. Check the VW forums for all the horror stories and alloy corrosion issues found in VR6 engines when the weak traditional type coolant VW G11 is used. Long-life coolants should be mixed with de-ionized water for maximum life.
AFAIK there is no "e" in coolant !

The Comma is manufacturer approved to the latest MB spec.Higher in fact than the bottle of blue MB stuff I've got in my garage.

The reason I think is because the anti-corrosion additive is the later G30 Glysantin made by BASF which is better than the earlier
Glysantin grades.
BTW the top grade of long life anti-freeze sold by Halfrauds is in fact the comma stuff, the can is identical.
