After 9 months of Mercedes fun, it's time to end the indulgence. I like my Merc but I don't love it, and as such it's not had an easy life with me; I'm also used to older noisier cars, so I've not noticed as a couple of extra squeaks and rattles have snuck in on this car. I don't have the time, knowledge or money to make a full investigation or repair, so I'm offering this out while there's still some life in it in case someone else thinks they can use it until it dies or fix it & keep it going for another 15 years.
It's just passed 219k without any major incident, but when I recently offered my nephews a lift for the first time in 3 months they immediately remarked "is it supposed to be that loud?" Turns out the exhaust has started to blow & I'd not even noticed. Since having this pointed out to me I've also observed an occasional squeak from the front, possibly a wheel bearing as there's a little judder in the brakes when applied harshly - not the usual ABS fall-away pedal, which I'd initially mistaken it for.
Other "bad stuff" that was like it when I got it:
Rust on the front wings as is standard for these cars, also a little around the remote sensor on the tailgate - remote is non-functional, repairs have been attempted before my ownership without success. Ignition barrel has been changed at some point, so car uses 2 keys. Springs have gone in the bonnet raising mechanism, so needs to be raised to the vertical for unsupported access to the engine. Aerial jammed in half-open position. Right-side tailgate clip for load cover is broken, all pieces present but I've never worked out how to re-attach it.
Good things:
Twin airbags. 7 seater kit, cloth trim than needs a clean but has only a tiny wear patch on the driver's bolster; all other fabric is in top condition. Tow bar fitted, electrics taped over (status unknown) but all appear unused. Genuine MB beige cloth floormats, luggage cover/"dog guard", & thick black plastic boot liner with one minor crack, still exceptionally useful. Aside from remote locking (due to a broken fob), all other electrics work *including* the A/C (with Climate Control) & the S/E gearbox switch. First aid kit present, but not warning triangle. Spare tyre still new. Haynes manual included. Original manual, some other paperwork too, original MB cloth folder to keep it all in.
Taxed until the end of July 2011, MoT until 22/08/11. I don't have any recent service history; I've done 5k since I bought it, if I was told when it was last serviced & at what level then I didn't make a note of it. Tyres are all in very good condition, some casting sprues still evident & 4mm+ tread so plenty of life left in them; I've never had to worry about them losing pressure. Car starts first time every time, returns over 30MPG when driven carefully, doesn't use any oil or water.
Car is currently on a private plate, I shall be starting the paperwork to remove this on Monday and once I have the new V5C the car will go onto Gumtree at £750. However if one of you wants it, I'll take £650 ono (again, once the paperwork has completed.)
This car came to me with a club sticker, so may have belonged to one of you before? Here's a gallery of pics from when I bought it in September 2010, I'm assuming it will regain the number shown in these images.
