C180 1.8 CGI 2012 ELEGANCE
Hi guys, im new round here and just brought a 2012 C Class 1.8. Just getting used to everything now that ive had it a week.

First question is about the ECO. On the instrument cluster sometimes the Eco is in a green colour and sometimes its in a yellow colour. Whats the difference between the two?

Second question, today when I pulled up I put on the hand brake and was about to turn off engine until it said ''Hold''. I dident know what that was and then pressed brake pedal and took of hand brake and put it on again and it was gone?

Third question is what is that black square shaped thingy on the exterior drivers door handle? Looks like some sort of sensor of some kind?

Fourth question is basically when I rev the car at idle, to maybe 3.5-4k rev+ it shakes left to right. It feels really nice and sporty but doesent look right lol. Its not a major shake but you can feel it, like a boat, left to right.

Final question is that my car has just hit 14k miles, serviced last at 9k miles all from MB main dealer. In 5k miles the oil only showing 1/4 full on dipstick. Is this normal or something wrong? Its overdue a service by 45 days, I am going to service within next 2 weeks, just a little worrying maybe or is it normal?

Sorry 2-3 questions turned to 5 :P they just kept coming!

Thanks guys!!!

Green is most economical, yellow less so. I believe it responds to how it is being driven or amber means not in eco due to engine being cold.
Hold is a feature for the brake pedal; it holds the car on the footbrake in traffic or for hill starts, negating the need for the 'handbrake'.
The black square sounds like an infra red sensor for opening/closing windows
It's normal for an engine to 'roll' when revved due to torque reaction/movement of the engine on its mounts
There is a specific MB method for checking oil level.

I have only one question; do you have a handbook for the car?

Hi, thanks for the info, all reassuring! Unfortunately I wasn't given a handbook with my purchase since it was sold at auction. The only reassuring part of the sale was that the car came directly from Rolls Royce:dk:

You mentioned that there's a specific method to checking the oil. I came from VW and Toyota and they just used the simple pull out dipstick method. What is the special way of checking the oil level if you don't mind telling me.

Thanks in advance!!

The Eco light in yellow or green indicates if the stop/start function will engage or not.

If the Eco is yellow the stop/start will not work, when it turns green it will.

You cannot switch the colour status yourself, it is calculated by many things, such as engine temp, battery charging, etc.

You will notice that even once it turns green that it may turn back to yellow a few miles later.

The 'hold' function is operated by you.

If whilst holding the car on the foot brake you press the brake pedal a little harder you'll notice the 'hold' display come on in the dashboard.

This means you can release your foot from the brake pedal, but the brakes at still holding the car.

To release the 'hold' simply blip the throttle, touch the brake pedal or engage 'park' (if auto gearbox).

Hope that helps?
