2.6 w201

Looks like a sportline to me. There was an interior option as well, with the 2+2 configuration as used on the 16v models, but it's pretty rare to find as it was an expensive option.

The sportline option for the suspension/steering is the important one - lower ride height, 7J alloys with the 205/55/15 tyres etc. I think there's a thread on here somewhere where I posted up the option codes, you can check from the VIN :)

I though the sportline had the badges but maybe because the kit is missing them but should it not have the sportline gear knob?

Sportline chassis

Option 650 - Sports Chassis. I would need evidence that this option is actually fitted. My W201 2.6 auto has this option, but no exterior Sportline badges nor Sportline gear knob. Has a leather interior (similar to the one in this ad), but not the individual rear bucket seats and more contoured front sports seats which came with the Sportline interior package. It does however have the armrest on the front passenger seat - possibly the most useful and used option!

I'd certainly recommend giving this car a serious inspection - as Neil states, it has had a serious water leak problem - which would make me question the state of the cylinder head gasket. With no service history either and what may be lurking under that "factory fitted" body kit.......???

However, it could turn out to be a really good car. Good luck to the guy who gets it.

Sport chassis is not sportline,is it????

I believe the consensus is that "Sportline" (option 950 [NOPARSE][maybe][/NOPARSE]) was a package of "sports chassis" (a.k.a. "sports undercarriage") and the sports seats (option 243 [NOPARSE][front and rear][/NOPARSE] or 244 [NOPARSE][front only][/NOPARSE]). I don't think the W201 had the option of separate seats in the back like the W124 Sportline?

Discussed many times before; try [THREAD=35246]here[/THREAD] or [THREAD=31097]here[/THREAD], or even search yourself.

Option 650 out of the three which comprise the full Sportline option is far & away the most important.

You can find the seats & 390 mm steering wheel with relative ease & install them in less then 2 hours. It's the suspension changes of the sports chassis which absolutely transform the car.

There's no front only option on W201 Sportline seats.

Are the sportline seats in the W201 the same as fitted to the W124 saloon/estate?

What pics?

Edit: OK – that's bizarre. When I first posted all I saw was the text in Nick's post. But when I got back to the thread after clicking "Submit", there were photos there as well.

What crosses?

See edit above, but previously I could see nothing but the text in Nick's post.

When I looked at first there was only text but small boxes with red crosses in ...

That sounds like a browser thing. Yours was alerting you to the absence of the images; mine was silently ignoring the problem...

What do you mean? Can't you see the pics?

No, just two lines of text. But when I hit submit, the photos (thanks Nick) became visible. Strange???
