2000 c43 CAT D

The ad gives the impression he hasn't had it too long - I wonder if he knows.

G55AMG - are you going to tell him?

Yup, just told him i was out and for what reason. He seemed a nice bloke - but he blatantly says says on eBay it is HPI clear - so there you go, either he is naive or...

:(

Shame as i was keen to have a pop at it! Oh well, the 500E i've got my eye on comes back to the top of the list!!

A 2000 model has Tiptronic, this has the uprated gearbox ECU/Software (just by the virtue of it being tiptronic) the tip box is "allegedly" a CLK55 AMG gearbox, and also has different style AMG alloys, the style more commonly found on CLK's

Little update on this one - seller is claiming the HPI he got done was clear! He has now dropped the price a tad, but also removed the line of "it's HPI clear" and not been very transparent on its status in the eBay listing.

Hpi usually relates to finance, the cat categories are there for the life of the car even when its repaired/inspected whatever it will always be a cat d.

So hpi clear means its finance free, but its still a cat d.

Cat d is a pretty low accident rating but can still be pretty badly smashed up.

This might turn out to be a bargain.

Hmm "HPI clear" should mean the vehicle has NO issues - no insurance claims, never stolen, no outstanding finance, etc - they check like 7 areas and highlight if any are dodgy. It doesn't just mean there's no finance on it.

Agreed the car could have had minor damage - CAT D is fairly minor damage, but still enough that the insurers paid out rather than repair - so indeed if someone is local and can check it out it first hand it may turn out to be a good buy, i get the feeling that it will be let go for a low price.

Risk vs return and all that. :)

Sold for £3600, now relisted at £3000 - and this time with the Cat D declared.

I HAVE JUST SPOKEN TO MYCARCHECK.COM. DON'T USE AS THEY ARE RUBBISH SO PASS OVER TO MY SOLICTIORS TO DEAL WITH. THEY HAVE SAID THAT THE CAR HAD DRIVERS SIDE BUMPER DAMAGE AND WING. I CANNOT SEE ANY SIGN OF A REPAIR SO IT LOOKS LIKE IT MAY HAVE BEEN AN INSURANCE SCAM, I.E NO DAMAGE BUT WITH A DECENT BACK STREET GARAGE AND A BENT INSURANCE INSPECTOR. DAMAGE WAS DONE APRIL 09 BUT THE CLAIM HAS ONLY WENT IN........YOU WORK IT OUT,

So becasue its had an accident and been repaired hes referred it to his solicitors and as for insurance companies dealing with back street garages maybe 20 years ago?

If its been repaired half decent you wont see any sign of a repair thats the whole point of a repair surely.

Sounds to me like hes been stiffed and isnt to pleased.

"no longer for sale due to court case with hpi company"

???

And it's back up again today, now with a leaking diff !!! :dk:

A leaky diff on an old merc surely not:D, next thing it will have a knackered geabox and a maf problem with maybe a misfire as the icing on the cake.

I think to be fair to the guy selling it, he sounds as though he's had about enough selling it.

It can be quite stressful selling a car, with all the 'know it all's' emailing silly questions, blind offers and trying to show off their observational skills when they have no intention of buying anything :wallbash:

I have no idea about the HPI check/cat-D side of things, perhaps he got stung.

Anyway, it's a nice looking car despite it's faults. Not many late black/black C43s, and £3000 isn't silly money. It'll make a nice car for someone IMHO.

The car is 9 years old, it has a high chance it has some history somewhere, if you are not going to buy it, leave the guy to sell the car.
I would think maybe 40% of the cars we drive would have some history, if you are happy with what you drive why worry!
