Afternoon,

Been having a bit of a nosey around the site but not 100% managed to find the info I was after...

I understand the engine I have is the same as the C200K and the C230K.

The last time I had a look Kleeman were able to add to a piggy back computer to by C180K and take it from 143bhp to around 190bhp, but I'd not heard the best things about the Kleeman boxes - has anyone had any experience with them...?

Someone else suggested I take my car to Brabus and get it tuned there, but I haven't had any joy in contacting them - again has anyone had any experience of this...?

I'm reluctant to let some 'lad with a laptop' play with the ECU settings - £200 seems a cheap way of getting an additional 'claimed' 35bhp out of the engine, but I don't know what impact this will have on the relevant component parts...

The 'speedbooster' throttle dongle in the sticky seems to be an interesting option - sorry if this has been asked before, but what impact does that have on bhp (assuming none...) / 0-60 / overtaking times and does it need to be declared to the insurance company (assuming yes...)

I trhink you have the 271 engine.

My recomendation is to get a re-map done by a reputable company.
 
What colour is the engine cover?
 
am i not right in saying that there is more to the C230k 271 engine than just more bhp? Larger supercharger and larger intercooler too?

I'm almost certain its just ECU mapping and compression ratio.

I believe SC is the same - inter cooler I couldn't really comment on...

I've tried various different airfilters including k&n (brabus) and Carlssons Blue filter. The result was a fresh stock mb one is better and doesnt cover the MAS in oil.

Re ECU tuning I had CCC do an upsolute chip tune on mine. Its ok but its never ever worth 35bhp in a million years. It adds drivability.

Sprintbooster makes no extra bhp but makes the car feel Alive...yes it has to be declared as an ECU mod.

I think it is time for a new filter - doesn't feel as alive as it used to.

How did the ECU tune affect your MPG...? I've seen claims of better economy but I don't know if I'm a believer...
 
Brabus do an upgeade for a M271 C200 but they say (when I asked) they can't do it on a C180. C55 is right the three variants of M271 have different compression ratios.

The M271 engine has a bore of 82mm and a stoke of 85mm
The C180 has a compression ratio of 10.2:1 and prodcues 105kw (143bhp)
The C200 has a compression ratio of 9.5:1 and produces 120kw
The C230k has a compression ratio of 8.7:1 and produces 141kw (193bhp)

Miro has done some work on this and the difference between the versions seems to be different pistons and ECU. The C230k has the same supercharger as the C200 I believe.

Schrick (Sp) do race cams for the M271. Kleeman do the K Box for £750 and the Header for another £750. Mkb and carlsson do a different pulleys and intercoolers. Basically to get over 200bhp will cost a fortune and everyone of these mods will cause your fuel consumption to get worse if you enjoy the extra power. I know I've tried.
 
i cant help but think that a 2003 C230K will probably not cost much more than £1000-2000 over your 180... so why?
 
A lot more than 143bhp and does 0-60 in about 8.5 ish ie C230 k time.

you saying you've got a 8.5sec time just from the remap?

Have you carried out any physical modifications save for the SB?

Were you thinking it would be far more cost-effective to track down a fellow member with a prime example of a C32 AMG that he may be tempted to part with for the right price?
