Hi all. Ive just bought a e55k in silver. 2003 with 55,000 miles split mint and fully loaded 1 owner car (very pleased). Firstly i would like to know anyone who has similar car, and how do these compare to the cls,s,class and cl in terms of performance etc. i am also in the market of buying a warranty for the car, (any ideas)........ What sort of figure should i have paid for the car. And are there any subtle badges available for the grill as i think it looks too plain on the front end.. Cheers all

Nice car enjoy, as regards warranty don't bother most aren't worth the paper they are written on. Find out what one would cost then put that amount away in a bank account in case you need it for repairs chances are you wont it will pay for a holiday instead.

If you really want a warranty then when I was in the trade and we did warranty work the company that was best and very rarely argued over authorisations was warranty direct.

Sounds great - there's a strange forum hex whereby if you don't post some photos of your new car, the wheels fall off .

Looing forward to them already :thumb:.

Bought a similar car myself recently and I think you will enjoy the performance:devil: Performance wise, similar to all the 55k engined cars, maybe slightly quicker than the S55K due to weight.
I looked at warranties and decided to put away a decent amount and take my chances. Warranty Wise wouldn't leave me alone after I asked for a quote (£935 pa for a 2004 E55K BTW) and I'm not sure Warranty Direct would cover the expensive weak points in the E55 like the SBC pump and airmatic struts.

Not sure about badging the grill myself. I like the clean look:thumb:

Good choice. :thumb:

I wouldn't (and didn't) bother with a warranty. I would also save the cash you would have spent on a warranty for any larger bills which might crop up. WD I believe are the best if you do.

I've had a ball joint go in 2.5 years so far touch wood - the rest being consumables / routine maintenance.

I personally don't like grille badges on this model of Merc - I think it looks tacky but each to their own. It seems to suit the CLK IMO.

At one Vmax event, mine was quite a bit quicker off the line that an S55K and CLS55.

Ahem ahem . . . i very much doubt it, i still have the video evidence to prove otherwise sir :D

On take off you'd be surprised what such a large barge as the S55k can do. At that particular Vmax event the S55k was ahead of just about everyone on take off, upto about 80mph id say. After that all the modifications on the other cars would kick in. But up till then . . . there were surprised faces. :bannana:

A few people asked me what mods i had, at that time i had none.

Have you footage of it up against my car?

The S55K was no slouch, but I seem to remember I took one from the line without too much trouble although I'm not aware of any video evidence (there is for the CLS55 which I believe is on a par with the S55K I mention - and I was a fair way ahead of it).

The one I remember (nice chap in a black S55K - is that you?) - the guy wanted me to hang back on the next run so his friend could record him - which I did.

Mine is standard (standard pulley etc.) - just K&N air filters which I imagine make bugger all difference.

Then an E55K would have an S55K on the twisties too...

Bit pricey for the age and mileage that one...

And the fact it's been badged E63,tells you a lot about the last owner.

That is something I don't quite understand. Why go to the trouble and expense of removing the 55 badges only to replace them with 63 badging that any Merc enthusiast would recognise as not being kosher?
Unless you went the whole hog and upgraded the lights, front bumper, rear skirt etc, what is the point? Is the E55K not enough I wonder for these owners.

As above, the car in Stourbridge is overpriced IMO.

I have one against yourself, which unfortunately shows a bad start on my part and hence you got away from the start line.

But i have another 3 against other E55k's which show otherwise, i believe one of those was supposed to be 600bhp.

I was not a forum member back then so im not too sure whose who, but it does give you a general idea of what an S55k can do from standstill.

How do i post up videos on here? ;)

Congrats on a awesome machine. Now, go over to the guys at Eurocharged and let them hook you up with a ECU tune. Totally different animal and it will pull even harder. :)

Agreed...

I didn't even bother looking at the photos - the price at that age and the 'rare' told me enough...

Lol - that old chestnut!

To be honest - it's all in the start and it can go either way quite easily.

Yours is the black one then... ;)

Marty359 posted his clips on YT - that's probably easiest...
