Will try and make this brief....
Stepfather has a 2004 C270 CDI Estate that he's had for about 6 months now, which he really likes; no major problems or niggles really until the other day......
Warning light on dash came on saying number plate illumination bulb had gone so he had a look and whilst both bulbs were blackened with age (but still working apparently) one was fairly heavy with corrosion/verdigris on the festoon bulb connection....
He replaced both bulbs with new.......and now both number plate lights don't work!
He looked in the fusebox and there was a chart there (seemingly a print-out of some official MB publication) that listed all the bulb fuses as 'electronic'.......so can't check.
He also states that around the same time the dashboard lights (ie to illuminate the display) have stopped working and that irrespective of whether night or day when placed in 'auto' mode all exterior lights (ie headlights) come on when he's driving the car........
I've only just come across terms like SAM tonight after searching on here and am wondering how the heck to sort all this out, these C-Class cars seem so prone to electrical gremlins don't they?
Any ideas folks?
At the moment he can't drive it at night due to no number plate lights!
Any tips appreciated...

Thanks!
