Hi,

Is there an easy way of telling if my car has fibre optics?
I have read such things as if you have navigation (which I do)
Then yes I have it.
Also such things as unless there's a sub woofer in the back seats then I dont.( which I don't)

I don't know where to look in the boot of the car to check for the orange cables etc.

Just wondering if there is an easy to tell?

Thanks

I'm pretty sure the guys at COMAND Online can tell you from the VIN.

What does your head unit look like? - I think the facelift models are when they switched to the fibreoptic bus, but I could be wrong.

Hi,

Attached is a photo of the unit

I will contact command online using my vin and see if they can help too.

I know I could remove glad the dash and check the back of the unit but really want to avoid that if I can.

Thanks

Hi, if the comand unit was factory fitted, I'm sure you would have the fibre optic.

Do you have a CD changer? This also required fibre optic as far as I'm aware.

That looks like the NTG2 so it's a MOST unit rather than D2B (which was in the earlier cars).

Now that I think about it; I might have this the wrong way around! - D2B was the optical fibre (ring?) system, whereas MOST is a plug-and-play media bus.

Hi yes I have a CD changer in the glove box.

Thanks for the info guys.

Just wanted clarification as according to my Indy my head unit is dead.

So there is a few options
1. A new one at around £1500
2. Second-hand unit with the same part number.
3. Sent unit away and see if it can be repaired.
4. Speak to the local car audio specialist.

The last time I spoke to the audio specialist they said according to there system my car shouldn't have fibre optic, but he was pretty sure it did.
So he asked me to get in on the diagnostic and find out issue.

I just wanted to have the correct info.

Thanks

If the unit is really dead & it's not the fuse or something else, I'd consider the only two options below.

1. Get a used command unit from ebay, doesn't have to be the same part number, just has to be for the CLK.
2. Go for an aftermarket unit

An Android unit can be supplied for about £300. The advantage is they look like OEM and are better specced than any 2006 unit would be.

If you email me your VIN, I'll get you the exact layout and components list of your MOST network.

Regardless of what is on your network, I completely agree with the last post - I see no point replacing failed old tech with another old tech; plus there's no way to tell if other MOST components are undamaged, could turn into a very expensive exercise.
