Hi All,

I recently bought this car and have a CEL and common DTC P0128 indicating a dicky Thermostat (or sensor). My instinct tells me to go for the Thermostat but before I do I wanted to get some info on the replacement part. My engine number is 30 700774272-940 (I'm guessing the last 6 digits are common for all M272-940 engines).

Finding a genuine MB parts for a DIY fix seems to be a bit of a lottery these days, most dealerships are trying to get the car into their workshops obviously. I have found countless 'OEM' parts made by many of the more common manufacturers but they all indicate 100 degree C operating point. I read a thread somewhere which indicated that the temperature used to be 87 Degrees C and that there was a 90 degree option also, now all I can find is 100 degree thermostats.

Can anyone offer advice on what the temperature should be, and what might be a better OEM manufacturer if I can't find a genuine part.

The car is booked into a local indy anyway for a Star check (for the P0128 fault) and a general check of the suspension but I would like to try to source a part and do the work myself to save some money, I can easily change a Thermostat myself.

Cheers
Mike

Personally I’d recommend getting the genuine part from the dealers. It’ll be more expensive, but it’ll be the right one and genuine parts have a 2 year guarantee. The three disc thermostat on these v6 engines is a common fault.

EML lit up on CLK years ago turned out to thermostat, new one fixed the problem but warm up is just as slow.
