2007 E320cdi estate rear air suspension nightmare

The rear air suspension on my 2007 E320cdi estate is an ongoing nightmare.

Had problems a few months back with rear of car sagging, a brittle cracked pipe that fed one airbag was discovered, replaced it, all seemed good.
Four weeks later, suspension sagging again. Had been warned during the previous investigations that compressor wasn’t working very efficiently, so replaced it, all seemed good.

Now the rear of the car is going down again but not consistently. Some mornings it’s down first thing then when I open the doors I hear the compressor kick in, and it comes back up. Sometimes I leave the car for half an hour after driving it and it goes right down, other times it stays up for several hours.
Sometimes it seems fine when I start driving, then after some time the ‘warning car too low’ message appears on my dash and the car has sagged again !!
So we’ve been looking for another leak, but I can’t see why if it is a leak that the back of the car wouldn’t go down every time at a similar rate.

Any advice, thoughts, comments welcomed please

Maybe a small split in one of the airbags, which can settle in various states of 'leak' when the car comes to rest. Soapy water and a thorough inspection ought to find it if it exists. If you've had one brittle and cracked pipe, there might also be others.

Had the same thing with one side of the GL rear. Was the airbag. Pattern ones are pretty good and a bit cheaper than mb.

Thank you both for your responses.

My mechanical friend is going to get busy with the soapy water.
I have looked on eBay in case it does turn out to be the airbag and assuming I’m looking at the correct part (OEM no. 2113200825 3 pin) it seems that new aftermarket ones at £137.99 look to be better value than used Merc ones ?

Can anyone confirm please that this is the correct airbag for a 2007 E320cdi 3.0 Estate ?

Hi.
Could I ask which compressor you got, where from & how much did it cost?
Many thanks

It very muck looks like an airbag leak. We seem to do more and more of them now as they are getting older.

I searched eBay for ‘Airmatic air suspension compressor S211’ and bought one of the brand new ones that was £99.80.

Would you know the part number please for the rear airbags for my 2007 E320 3.0 diesel estate. I want to make sure I don’t buy the wrong one, if we do discover an airbag leak !!

My mechanic suspects the driver side rear airbag has a split so I bought another on eBay and it doesn’t fit !! The one on the car has a two pin connector, the new one has a three pin connector. Oh joy !! And we are still not 100% that it’s the airbag at fault we just feel we have eliminated the other obvious possibilities.
Can anyone tell me if STAR will be able to diagnose the leak accurately ? Or confirm if 2113200925 is the air spring I need for a 2007 E320 CDI 3.0 please ?

Buy one from your local dealer. It will fit and you will get two years warranty. No need for a part number as they will look it up for you.
