Hi all.

Does your E-class petrol auto creep when stationary in gear and you release the brake pedal?

My 2007 E500 does not, which is unusual for an auto?

Thanks.

Dont all autos do that?....never driven one that didnt.....it allows you to creep forward in heavy traffic without using the throttle and usually is enough to stop you rolling back on slight slopes.

Exactly lol! Any other facelift E500 owners comment? No codes, drives and shifts perfectly otherwise....

Obviously the engine isnt short of torque at idle ;)

New trans and torque convertor fluid and filter done as well.

Will it hold on an incline in Drive or will it roll back?

Huummm, I think it does hold on a hill.

Are you in W mode? Setting off in 2nd gear has less creep and if you also have dragging brakes then maybe the 2 together are causing this? In S mode if should have a more powerful creep effect (but to a lower 'top creep speed')

Dont have w on these. Just C / S. Dont think it creeps in S either....

This thread is giving me the creeps o_O

When I am stopped at long winded traffic lights Etc I will either select park or neutral to stop my brake lights annoying the life out of the driver in the car behind me. Most autos will creep on flat ground.

If you press the brake pedal hard you can take your foot off the pedal and it will hold, not sure if it works on all autos but it does on mine

I`m aware of the hold function with the older SBC unit. I `think` MB added this function to the facelift non-SBC cars. But I`m not doing that in mine....at least not intentionally.

Brake Hold is there on many later cars too e.g. our 2019 C Class has it. But I've never had an auto of any age/make/size/engine type that didn't creep forward in drive without some sort of braking applied (unless on an incline).

Yes, the facelift E500 certainly “creeps.” As does the pre-facelift S211 E500, the S212 E500, S500L etc etc. It’s a standard automatic gearbox feature designed for modern driving.

If you want to stop it creeping, you just press the footbrake firmly and it holds until you press the accelerator again.

Sorry but I can’t imagine why yours isn’t creeping. That’s a question for an Indy or gearbox specialist.

Once you use it you'll never look back! It can be a bit of a knack at first though - take your foot off the brake once you have come to a complete stop, then more an immediate sharp tap on the brake pedal. HOLD will come up on the dash
