Hi,
I replaced the oil seals and cleaned the inlet manifold on the C320 CDI, changed the fuel filter aswell. After letting the fuel pump run for 10 minutes I cranked the engine (4 times now, (10 second crank 1 minute rest)X3) charging the bettery each time but the engine won't come live. Before this job the car would start in a jiffy even after not being used for several weeks. I know there is fuel in the system because one of the bolts from the fuel pump to the fuel rail was lose and diesel squirted out of it. Any ideas what to try next? The car has done just under 60k miles. Thanks.

After your maintenance work, if the C320 CDI won't start, check for air in the fuel system, ensure a charged battery, inspect the fuel pump, and consider using diagnostics if needed. If the issue persists, consult a mechanic.

Can you check the fuel rail pressure? If that is low a start is inhibited.
The camshaft position sensor needs to see the can, for sync with the crank. Id the wiring / connection ok?

Likely as not you've missed / messed something simple during the rebuild. I often need to trace my steps.

Thanks for you replies guys. Pressure is measured using a diagnostic tool I would have assumed? I have a basic one will try using that.
Is there a way to purge air out of the system? Thanks.

if pressure is rising, air lock in injectors.

Hi, the car starts now, but I had to get some help. I cranked about 10 times yesterday recharging battery twice yesterday but no luck. Did not have a diagnostic tool, called in a mate whose mate had an old Snap-On Solous Pro scanner. He plugged it in and established there is air in the fuel system (don't know how). He then loosened the outlet from the HP fuel pump asked me to crank and fuel sprayed out (I had done this too). Then he loosened a few other fuel delivery bolts and asked me to crank, this time he sprayed something into the air intake butterfly (not easy-start because I had tried that too). The third time he asked me to crank with all bolts tightened spraying the same thing again and the car started. The annoying thing is I had tried things similar to him but it would not start. I would have liked to know what the magic fluid he sprayed was but he packed everyting pretty quick, charged me £80 and left.

Probably Damp-Start or similar. Essentially ether.
