I can't find a list price for these now as it seems the 500 motor is no longer available. But this must be close to 50% depreciation in year one.

These will be a lot of motor for not much cash at 2 to 3 years old.
 
Is it a good buy. A used 350cdi is barely any slower and pricewise roughly same ball park. The reason the 500 is no longer available is the 5500cc V8 is being discontinued and it will be replaced with a 4.7 turbo unit, related to that of the new AMG twin turbo, which for some bizarre reason is named 63AMG

I know this has fallen from a greater height price wise, but for a used buyer, its £32,000 so thats the start and end of the discussion.

Very nice car, but I suspect someone will have to really "want" the 500 to opt for it over the 350cdi.

I was suggesting in a year or two it will be a good buy, likely under £20K. Then it looks tremendous value.

It does, but so will an E350cdi.

I looked for an E500 when looking at "the shed". The price differential was pretty much nil, however the cost of fueling one would double the other.

Price per mile I've worked out an E500 would still represent poor value for money for a motorist who does over 10,000 miles a year, which I am.

Great for a 6k miles man, cracking car, but for those who choose to drive more, its either an expensive indulgence, or not a cost effective car to own.

If I wanted an expensive indulgence car, I would hate to say my £20,000 would be going on a C63 for outlandish fun.

I do like the car, but sadly for me, it would be a car outwith my means to run.
