I'm Back in a Benz: 2016 CLA45 S/Brake Previous: C250Cdi Est AMG Sport + Auto, E220Cdi SE Coupe.

Also front pads....

This is according to the main dealer who are currently carrying out B service on it....

I'm shocked - havent needed new discs on a car for many many years despite running them for 3-4 years on average.

Anyone else surprised??

Or is this average??

Thanks

Sounds a bit premature, but if the pads have been very low they could have caused the premature wear to the discs.

Obviously the life is affected by your driving style and traffic.

Sounds pretty short timescale but it does depend on driving style I guess, also main dealers seem to be very, very quick to recommend disc changes.

My 2011 c250 cdi with 33k is showing signs of the same thing. Disks have a noticeable lip and pads look low too. My 120d BMW was sold with 90k and original disks but I guess the ones on the c class are made of chocolate.

I've always been very light on the brakes..... but sounds like MB have cut costs here...we shall see.

Garages do like to fit brake discs and pads though - it's an easy job and quick money spinner.

Not saying that they don't need replacing, but you sound as though you have your doubts. You're within your rights to ask for the old parts to inspect if you so wish :-)

Agreed.

I've told them to leave them and I'll get a second opinion.

This topic has come up before. The friction material on the pads is a lot tougher these days, so I guess the friction material causes the discs to wear out quicker?

In the past you could use 2 sets of pads before the discs needed changing. As you say, get a 2nd option and if you do need the discs/pads replacing then get an indy to do the work and not an MB dealer.

For info mine disks and pads needed replacing at around 33K too. Now I do brake late and heavy. I also needed new tyres, so I took the car to my preferred (and cheaper) tyre fitter and he confirmed the discs were nearly shot and the main dealer was right to suggest to replace them both - so I did. There was quite a big lip on them when took a look at the tyre fitter.

My 2012 C350 needed new pads and discs at the same mileage. Wasn't surprised at the pads. Was surprised at discs as normally I replace them on the second set of new pads. Did check the discs and they were shot. Is a big heavy car though when you think about it.

Driving mostly in town my car needs front discs every 25-30k. And I drive slowly and brake very gently, but with all the speed bumps and traffic lights the brakes are in constant use.

Mileage as such is not a good comparative figure, i.e. driving on a non-busy motorway you could rack up hundreds of miles with very little brake wear

I've got my B1 service looming I'd be amazed based on what people say if they don't advise disc and pad replacement on mine.

Out of interest ball park what would/should a standard B1 service cost on a C250 CDI at main dealer and what did people pay for discs and pads?

Might beat them to it and source OEM parts in advance and just pay labour so under warranty. Any recommendations on where to source OEM discs and pads?

Had disks and pads on mine at 35k. Mainly motorway driving.
Just had my B service done 3 weeks ago. The car had covered 31000 miles, in 2 years, from new. The dealership reported 20% pad wear on the front and 30% on the rear. The discs were all within wear limits and did not need changing. However they did recommend having the front disc holes cleaned out (it has the sports brakes upgrade) as they had become blocked with brake dust etc. They said that failing to get this done would lead to premature wear of the disc caused by overheating. Overall though I am happy with the wear rates.

Cost, after getting them to price match Bristol, was £417.....without any brake work...

We've agreed to wait for the warning light to come on!!!

Ouch. I kind of was expecting something in that order. At least I have £150 credit towards.
