Sorry for being a bit slow, but you're running 255/35/19 on a staggered set of wheels (8.5/9.5" front/rear). didn't know that was possible!
That’s OK- yeah look in your manual and you can see that a recommended winter set up is just that.
To be honest it was St13Phil who recommended that route as that’s what he’s been doing for a couple of years at least....

I've just been going through an old spread sheet to try to find out the running costs of my old E63 and was quite pleasantly surprised.

The total mileage in my 44 month tenure was 24,306 and the costs were broken down as follows: -

Servicing at MB: 2 x A and 2 x B: £1,542.43. Spark plugs and air filters excluded as modified items were fitted to the car.

Tyres: 1 set of fronts @ £419, 2 sets of rears @ £790.16

Brake Pads: £337. No fitting charge as I did them myself.

MOT (x 2): £60

Quaife Limited Slip Differential: £1,361.50. I consider this a necessary item on a rear wheel drive car with over 500bhp which is why it's included here.

This makes a total of £4,510.09, working out at slightly over £100 per month which I don't consider too bad for an AMG.

Fuel: £6076.29. Overall average was 22.3mpg, again not too painful, especially given the amount of Dyno time and runways it's been on, and certainly liveable with.

There were a few other bits and pieces such as number plate surrounds and wheel centre caps added though I'm not including these as, to me at least, they're non essential items.

There were also a lot of modifications done to the car though again, they've not been included as they're not really relevant to day to day running costs so pointless being here really. Some of these mods were a complete waste of money and were superseded within a few days of experimenting, though the car was a one off at the time as nobody had messed with the M157 engine. Suffice to say I could possibly have bought another car with what I spent on it, but it was fun getting there.

Hi
Would like to know of all the mods etc, what 3 things did you feel were of the greatest benefit and what were the cheapest?

Too many mods to mention. I suppose the logical one is the mapping though, to me at least, the one that gave the biggest performance increase was fitting the Weistec downpipes. The increase in torque was amazing and, as an added bonus, the sound improved as well. :) The one which I felt most beneficial was the Quaife LSD. Transforms the car totally.

None of the mods were cheap, especially as this was the first car with an M157 engine n the UK to have anything done to it. In reality I was the guinea pig. Basically you pay to play, but these cars can benefit from just a map and get nearly 700bhp. I ended up with 860bhp and 990lbs/ft of torque, which also meant a modified transmission for peace of mind if nothing else.

That's interesting and would certainly go for the LSD first of all.

With all the mod's how was your insurance premium and who do you insure with?

Is there a specialist for the AMG?

I'm with direct line and got a cracking quote, but would like to keep my options open for next year!

Car was initially insured with Privilege who, whilst being competitive while the car was relatively standard, declined to cover it when the mods took it to over 21% of the original. I ended up with A Plan at Thatcham who are happy to deal with modified cars. They even have my old 190E as well now as they gave me a good deal there as well.

Following up on this, MSL are offering the quaife diff supplied and fitted for £1250. Compared to what I've been quoted elsewhere it's a really good deal and I've personally gone for it and looking forward to getting it fitted on my non-S model

Forgot to mention it's a black friday deal thing. So you've got to make a deposit by the end of the week to get the deal.
Edit: just noticed Acid made a post about it. I'm not being paid by them to plug their promotion :)

Let me know how you get on..is it on the 5.5V8 BiTurbo?

Interested in this..

I will probably be doing a London and back trip before the new year so it will be interesting to see what kind of MPG figures I’ll achieve. The most I got from the CLS was 24 driving between 60-80 probably averaging 70.
