I suspect you've actually downgraded it and need to go back to the original wheel?

Yep - put the original back on.

hi thankyou but after paying £550 not the option i wanted to hear was told it fits just needs some kind of programing needed that's what i am looking for

You may have damaged the clockspring whilst fitting it? (Horns etc) - or it may have been damaged removing from donor car

Careful if wiring to squib is damaged - you don’t want the bag going off!

Remove battery whilst checking!

i have also read by removing the squib from the old wheel to the new works also i not been down that path yet i assume that the squib is all the wiring harness in the air bag

The most likely cause is that the front SAM does not know that you have a different type of steering wheel.

However, on MB cars, you can't reconfigure the front SAM directly (aka 'coding'). Instead, there's a process called SCN coding, whereby the MB central computer record for your car ('Datacard') is being updated with the new configuration.

Once this has been done, the front SAM will download the new configuration from the MB central computer.

However, you cannot retrofit and SCN-code an option that was never available for your car.

In your case, I suspect that you'll be able to get away with it, because you are trying to retrofit an option from a facelift to a pre-facelift on the same model (W205), and this is usually possible.

The SCN coding process can only be done with MB STAR and live subscription, while connected to both the car and the Internet. Any good independent specialist should be able to do this for you.

But, obviously, there's also the possibility that you may have damaged something, as others said, in which case SCN coding alone won't solve the problem.

(It may possible to hack the system and reconfigure the car without a live connection to MB, but I have no knowledge of this, so you'll need to Google it if you want to go down that route).

Sounds like more trouble than it's worth to me . Interested to see how this pans out.

Well, we've had a member on here who fitted a W204 facelift dashboard (including COMAND and instrument cluster) to a pre-facelift car. Not for the faint of heart.... :D

Of no help to the OP, of course, but how much simpler life used to be: undo one nut and, as long as the splines were correct, change the wheel, replace nut, job done. Now, I simply put up with whatever is fitted as standard.

Good luck, OP.

Pretty sure there was a post on here or the other site about swapping a C Class steering wheel and it worked first time, maybe worth some searching?

Yep, old skool mods were generally a doddle.....I put an Audi 80 3 spoke leather wheel on one of my VW Transporters. The most difficult bit was finding a VW badge to fit.

well glad to say it all worked out good the adaptor fitted to steering wheel does the job so it all up and working . its just a matter of finding the right person who has the bit of kit needed ty all for your help
