I've done a quick search, with little success.

My 2016 W212, when locked and unlocked chirps the alarm siren, and sounds the main horn briefly.

I've found in the online manual how to silence the main horn, but the alarm siren still chirps.

I'd prefer complete silence, the alarm chirp is a little '1980's' for me. The clunk of the central locking and flashing of the indicators is enough for me.

I've read the chirp can only be disabled using STAR, requiring a dealers diagnostics charge, or a wait until the next service.

Surely it can be silenced by the owner i.e. me?

On my previous W203 the alarm 'chirped' on lock/unlock, i.e. it was the alarm sounder that beeped, not the car horn. This feature could only be activated and deactivated (and the volume level adjusted) via STAR.

On my W204, there's a beep from the horn (and not the alarm sounder 'chirp'), on 'lock' only, and this feature can be activated and deactivated from the instrument cluster menu (no need for STAR).

Thanks markjay, it's looking like the same applies to the W212.

Not sure why Mercdes-Benz would go to the effort of allowing me to silence the horn, but not the alarm siren, but hey-ho, it'll have to wait until it's next plugged into STAR.

Had the car in at the dealers today, they whipped it into the workshop and silenced the alarm chirp using STAR in less than a couple of minutes.

Much better, it doesn't sound like a 1980's games console anymore :)

On mine a 2016 S212 the notification can be turned on/off via settings in the dash.

The horn beeps were switched off by me as they are annoying.

I was able to turn off the horn using the dash settings, but the alarm chirp was STAR only on mine.

Holy thread revival Batman!

Can't see this in the instrument cluster menu. Am I missing something? (My horn beeps three times on lock and once on unlock - SWMBO hates it!)

Is your W204 pre-facelift or post-facelift? Mine was post-facelift.

This should help on a facelift W204.

Sorted thanks to @AMGeed . Of course it was called an acoustic alarm, not something logical like Horn!

If you have the Mercedes Me app you may be able to change this via the 'vehicle settings' screen on that. For our W205 it's the first option listed.

Incidentally I'm pretty sure that using the horn for lock/unlock confirmation would be illegal in the UK, whereas a chirp from the alarm unit would be OK.
