.22 Air Rifle

field target shooting/pest control...what application are you looking to use it for?

Do you have a buget in mind...clearly a good scope and rifle can be many times the price of an 'adequate' system?

EXTRA: .22 air pellets are heavy (like the Eley Magnum at 30gr.) so I assume you mean a ticketed air weapon over the 12 ft/lb limit? would this assumption be correct?

Means you need a Firearms Certificate (commonly called a 'ticket' in the trade) like you would for a metallic cartridge rifle/pistol. Under that limit you can acquire an air rifle without a certificate.

Thanks.

So is it mandatory to be a gun club member to get a firearms licence?

My brother has numerous firearms but he has a class A / 1 licence whatever that is. I dont think he is a member of a club.

I have a section 1 FAC, it is a condition of mine that Im a member of a approved gun club.

As for buying a air rifle try looking on www.airgunbbs.com they have a large forsale section.

Thanks.

No, not mandatory..there is a requirement for "good cause" which, I believe, is down to the local police authority who issues Certificates (not entirely certain of this as I always used the company's Registered Firearms Dealer certificate which is a different thing altogether).

I think you mean Section 1 which covers what would be refered to as standard firearms such as a deer rifle or a target rifle. Section 5 covers things such as pistols and expanding/pyrotechnic projectiles (i.e hollow points and tracer) and that again requires a differing need to show "good cause" such as being a professional pest controller. You often find the number of firearms you may possess, and the quantity of Section 5 ammo you may buy and store at anyone time, is seriously reduced compared to that which is allowed on a standard section 1 certificate.

Just an air rifle, as the local rats seem drawn to my garden.
Stealing the food I put down for my 3 hedgehogs

What distance we talking about here?
You could just buy a simple "breaking" type with a spring mechanism (so long as its not shot out through over use and lack of maintanence)
How big is your rat problem?
We have had a nest recently but 2 cats have been bringing us plenty of presents and even found Mummy yesterday - so think that problem may have subsided (for the moment)

A cheap BSA Meteor or Stingray should do the job; zero the thing in on iron sights at 15-20yards and shoot them in the head - job done

Cheap as chips and it allegedly bumps off magpies!

At even 10 metres this will do what you are asking

John

Cheap to post also :)
