.22 Air Rifle

High postage cost to discourage people trying to order by post.

"All Air Guns are available for collection only from our Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire Premises."

I suspect a typo and perhaps a phone call will not go amiss.

John

You were the warmest  :)

Yes we are aware of it, we're not allowed to sell them via mail order and the transaction has to be done in our shop for air rifles. It was a new law that came into effect around a year ago, however we still show them on our site.

I never knew anything about this law, but there you go

John

Edit just logged on to a few other shops and they are all saying

Airguns are now only available from the shop

Another of the crazy laws they've brought in to put people out of business. I have decent rifle (Daystate) but I also have one of those SMK's which whilst cheap and cheerful, is terrific VFM. Will see off the rats no probs, just make sure you have lots of gas. Oh, iirc they also do a .177 which might be better.

Yup, we spotted a rat eating the bird food up a pole. Now we dont feed the birds - sad, but best way of avoiding the issue. The rat man said the rat was in hotel heaven - it lived in a drain, had food in the rotten wooden shed and a pool full of nice clean water.

My business partner had a mouse eat the insulation off the wires at that control the shock absorbers on his SL55 ... a bit more and the front suspension would have dropped down at some random (probably dangerous) time.

You are not allowed to post air weapons any more - they have to be purchased face to face or posted to a registered firearms dealer (who normally charge about £20 for the handling)
This is due to the Violent Crime Reduction Act.
I have a second hand shop & have been selling air weapons for 22 years but have now had to become a Registered Firearms Dealer just to sell them!
Mad isn't it? You used to be able to buy shotguns from Kays catalogue!

cheers
Chris

I have an Edgar Brothers model 75 air rifle which cost me £90. A telescopic sight was another £40 fitted - a nice set up for not a lot of money.

I have to say that although I bought it to shoot rats, the bloody things are far too quick - once we've seen one, by the time we've gone upstairs, loaded the rifle, opened the window, the rat is long gone.

Perhaps a better bet might be to put some rat poison down - in order to stop the hedgehogs getting it, put it in some drain pipes or tubing - rats love these tunnels and will use them - a few doses of poison and they're history.

Another option would be to get a cat !

I thought for F2F, it had to be a firearm?
You can still buy air rifles within the legal limit by post.
T'internet says so.

T'internet is wrong - must be an old website - try ordering one & you will see!!
