Hi guys sorry to ask this as its everywhere but answers vary.
I have oil and filter changed my recently bought 2013 C Class 250 cdi amg saloon with spec req fully synthetic 5w30 oil.
Since doing this the engine has a rattle on cold start up until oil temp up and around engine. I know this is very common on these cars but I am thinking of changing oil out for 5w40 as reading forums when these engines get up in miles 5w30 oil is bit thin. My car has done 90k miles, engine is really strong. Question is is it better & safer for timing chain protection & to help engine rattle on cold start up to use 5w40 oil as long as its mb spec. ie 229.51 obvs for dpf.
Thanks very much for info.
Appreciated.

Welcome.

MB229.52 is actually the latest spec, and it's better, but MB229.51 is also OK.

As for rattle at cold startup, the 30 or 40 won't make a difference, but 0W or 5W might.

Which brand of oil did you use.

Hi buddy. Thanks very much for reply.
So 5w40 to spec is good and will do no harm? I'm hoping it quietens it down on cold start.

Thanks

Hi guys. So serviced oil again at wk end. Used petronas 3000av 5w40 oil. Mb spec 229.51.( for dpf) & bosch filter.
All I can say is incredible. The engine is super smooth and no rattle on 1st start up in morning. Brilliant tbh. Will be using this going forward. Thanks for advice guys. Appreciated. 👏👏👍👍

Yeah I can understand why. Engine sounds super healthy. I'll be using from now on.
