Hello
My 2016 250d GLE done approx 21500 miles, today brake pad warning light came on
To my surprise, the warning did not say front or rear but this may be a typical message.

I was advised about 2 years ago my pads on rear needed replacing. I was a bit surprised as on the other cars
I have ownwed always rear wheel drive and gLE 4x4, the other cars needed front doing first

Mercedes I think quote 250 or 350 when it was in for a service - i will use someone else

My question is - approx how many miles can i drive the car - it is mainly town driving and i am a gentle driver -
I have booked a brake check for this week but feel they are the rears as advised by MB about 2 years ago

Thanks

I seem to recall that it’s about 1000 miles left when the warning light comes on but that must have a heathy margin built in.

If it’s your GLE then I’d bet a shandy that it will be the rear pads which are worn. They seem to last no time at all on the GLE.

i would replace them now as you are damaging your discs as well at this point. susrprised they lasted 2 years, unless you dont drive it much around

Thank you, they are indeed the rear ones, I mainly do town driving, stop, start traffic and I'm a gentle driver car has done 22k miles, had from new the one driver - about 3m left on rears and 5/6mm front

Cars due in for service and I have always used the main dealers. However, rear pads only and I guess new wear sensor - over 400 quid.

Looked on Brembo pads and Bosh wear senor, about 75 quid. Therefore, will consider someone else and most fast fits are supply and
fit possibly these or other brands for 210 to 250. Not sure what an Indy would charge - not bothered asking we are within driving distance of the one in Sidcup.

There's a good indie in Sidcup just east of the main road north of Critalls Corner. I did not know I have a brake wear sensor on the rear and assumed (after 8 years and 50k miles) that the brake wear warning on the dash was front pads. No such luck, it was a failed rear NS caliper plus discs and pads so an expected £165 for front pads turned into £655 for replacement caliper, 2 discs, pads and brake fluid change. Just what I needed at this time of year!

Better late than never 👍

Thank you all. I've had the car 7.5 yrs from new
Will replace - done less than 40 miles since light
Looking at replacing next week and by then the car should not have covered more than 150 miles all being as planned

The dealer price of over 400 quid is steep, so looking around and seeking a quote from Indy as suggested

Best price so far is at a fast fit outfit that we use for the other cars and mot on this - we have used them 20 years and the fitter is
now a manger and i trust him and their price is 175 ish inc pads, not sure what brand but I thik it starts with the letter R and new wear sensors

car is going in for a 'A' service not at the local dealer is about 350 but antoehr dealer a few miles from there are about 240, so going to the 240 main MB dealer
