As per title. I've inherited 2x 225, 45 R17 winter tyres for my front wheels.

Anyone got any part worn winter tyres for the the above to make me a set.

Considered running 225/45/17 on the rears too? Will be easier to find and cheaper.

The handbook for my car says to use those sizes in winter, yours is probably the same.

Would it not be too big a stretch. Staggered set up innit

I thought good practice here is to follow the guidelines in the handbook, that way there can be no comeback from insurance companies for 'modifications'.

Yep a lot of people dont actually realise that the backs are supposed to be wider and we have often seen same size tyres all around... dont look too bad but the 245's look right.

Maybe for summer tyres, but MB recommend 225's all round for winter tyres.

Indeed I have 225 front and rear on my C for winter, and before I invested in a second set of wheels I had the 225 on staggered rears without a problem. As Jay says, they just don't look right. That said the narrow wheels fitted to the rear don't look right either!!

I've bought some new winter tyres. Strangely the website indicates a 245 tyre width for the back, but I have two sets of 255 at the back. Considering its done 3k miles without ANY issue I am just fitting whats there.

245/40 R17's are in short supply, you have maybe 3 companies that make that size in winter tyres.

Yes, most MB handbooks say same size all round for winter use, it's a bit of a "one for all" answer, and not always much help.

225's on 8.5" rims, which is what he has on the rear i would suspect is a bit of a stretch, it's the min size you would fit comfortably on that size rim, it is also the same setup as my front's now i have the brabus rims on, and i can confirm it is a little stretch and noticable,

As for 255/40 R17 winters, good luck with that !!

I will be advertising very shortly, my Winter Sport 3D's as i now have Bridgestone Blizzak Winter boots for my car..... but i would rather sell these as a whole set

225/45 R17 (x2) - aprox 6mm tread
245/45 R17 (x2) - aprox 5mm tread

All in good condition no damage or repairs

i ran 225/45 all round when i had a c -sport..... worked well in snow as the narrower rear cuts through the snow better....

My tyres supplying 2x 255 17 40 Hankook winters for £207 delivered. I'd have bought your whole set if you advertised sooner.

lol, no worries.... that's a good price, and where i just got my bridgestones from, news too me that they do a 255 on 17" didn't know that :)

really fast delivery too on mine, came out of germany - and my tyre fitting centre can't even get a list of availabilities from their suppliers in regards to winter tyres !

just had a look, and there are a lot of tyres this year in that size, but still only a couple for 245 :( .... you can even get vredestein Wintrac xtreme's .... if i had known this i would have been sorely tempted to push to 255 on the back even for winter lol

I would be wary of fitting 255 winter tyres. I have 225 winters all round on my c-class and traction in snow is great.

I had 255 winters on the rear of my CLK and traction on snow was not impressive at all. Wider does not help in snow.

yeah, i know what your saying there, that's wy i didn't, if i could not get something different this year, i'd have been tempted to try 235's in the rear, i am playing the odds a little, because whilst we dont get snow like other countries, we still benefit form winter tyres, however i will be putting them on at the end of the month for about 4 months, and during that time i hope it wont all be winter conditions, so i don't want to stray too far from the staggered setup that is stock.

The car has 255 summer tyres, I assumed that as they fitted 255s would work well. I doubt the difference between 245 and 255 will mean I will be upside down in a field. I know what you are saying, but traction compared to my summer tyres will be greatly improved.

I'd just stick to the set up, if I had bothered to check, I'd have ran 245 at the back but 255 seems to fit and thats whats I bought.
