265/35 vs 245/40

You must have created a good impression.

Hastings weren't bothered. The bloke on the phone was clueless. But to be fair I should have had all the part numbers and dimensions to hand.

And normally at the tyre place I have a proper joined-up conversation with the owner, confirming all the sizing, pricing, options, etc before going ahead.

This time I was in a massive pre-Christmas rush; my wife had just aborted a trip to her family because of the slow puncture. In my last car she had a pretty horrendous experience with a high-speed blowout so I legged it round to the tyre place ASAP, saw the massive crack in the inner sidewall & just asked the fitter to fit rears. I was expecting to get a hole plugged; wasn't expecting to buy two tyres on the spot. I'd had no time to do any research and then had to rush off to get the wife's car sorted (which had failed its MOT that day) and to do a million other pre-Christmas things.

I know plenty of things about my car but rim widths, offsets and tyre dimensions just don't figure in the "interesting" pile.

Final upshot;

(a) I am a numpty
(b) I do have staggered rims
(c) all of the tyres are correct and
(d) I just knocked £20 off my insurance premium.

Thanks for all the help/suggestions/lack of laughing :-)

:D

One day, I will tell you about my "air head" moment.
