Noticed when the CLK is cold and you set off there is a slight grumble noise just as you pull away and then for a couple of up shifts. Once warm it stops. Can get a slight grumble when warm if you set off slightly quicker, not talking about foot to floor but using a bit of power but the changes are quiet..

Is this likely to be transmission and is it normal, its in for service next week and getting trans fluid changed, just wondering is there anything i need to get the mechanic to specificaly check..

Ah thanks mate, just though as it was when pulling away might be the transmission..

There is a documented fault re the transimssion. The rad leaks coolant in, but your symptoms are not this.

If your car judders or shakes, usually 3rd into 4th is the tell tale shift then you have issues....

No just seems to be mainly when cold, from stand still and 1st to 2nd and maybe into 3rd as well. Checked rad and from what i can see i think it is the Bher not the valeo or whatever it is called...

The rear gearbox mount needed changing on my clk270cdi at 140k miles.

Change the engine mountings, they get soft after a while and, under power, flex enough to cause metal to metal contact which transmits engine vibration through the chassis.

The car was 8 years old at the time, I guess the rubber can perish with a combination of time and mileage.

Update....

Whilst in the workshop my man with the spanners had a good look, prod and poke. The only thing he could get to make a noise was the exhaust. At some point it has had a new exhaust system and where the main section meets the down pipe the joint has a conical ring seal, held together with a spring clip. When pulling and pushing on the exhaust there was some strange noises coming from this joint and this is all he can find and said it may be because these were cheaper after market parts. So ordered a new seal and clip from MB, back to work shop last week and had them fitted. Hey presto noise now gone..

Just something for people to bear in mind..
