I'm trying to track down a stalling problem with this car. Being intermittent, this is tricky.
All the usual parts have been changed except for the Crankshaft Position Sensor - my garagiste says it's impossible to gain access to it. At least now he acknowledges its existance.
Now we have a new clue:
It appears ALWAYS to stall if I shift it into neutral at normal (30-50 mph) speed. Thereafter, I re-start and all's well until the next stall.
When I went through this the other day, it was 200 metres from home and I went through the following:
1. Shift into neutral at about 40 mph - engine dies.
2. Restarted and drove into the drive. Selected neutral prior to reverse, it died.
3. Restarted and selected reverse - no reverse. After a bit of revving, we jolt into reverse and all's well again.
Another example of the reverse thing happened the other day. Couldn't get any reverse so drove round the block, switched engine off and on, all well for another month - reversing like a good 'un.
This car has been like this for ages and I've got the new CPS. Oliver Stoner said he'd fit it if I'm near him and John Haynes said likewise if I'm in Worthing. Either way it'll be installed soon.
Now we've got, I think, another rumbling rear bearing but at 340 K Kms, who can complain.
Hey ho!
Best of new years to all.
