correct me if i'm wrong, if you are in sport mode a put your foot down then the cars automatically starts in first.
but i had a 90 230CE for 5 years, the only thing that went wrong was the fuel flow relay, £75 for a new one. the W124's are the most reliable modern cars mercedes have at present. I'm with many mercedes forum in which the new cars suffers badly with reliability problems especially the 5-speed gearbox. stick with what you've got.
I was longing after a 300CE. i did see a 300CE 24valve but i was told that those 24valve engine suffers from headgasket / oil leaks. so instead i brought a 97 C200 sport. although the car is more modern than the 230CE, the gearbox is an issue as many gearbox's used on the W202 are electronically controlled 5-speed that have major reliability issue's.
sometimes i just wished i kept the 230CE
