Hello.

I've just bought a 2007 320cdi cls, I don't pick the car up for a couple of week. The garage is sorting out my cherished registration transfer, doing a pdi and detail valet.
Anyway when I drove the car, I put it into manual mode and went through the gears. It cycled 1 through to 6 then on the next up shift it went into D. Does this car have the 7g gearbox?

Many thanks in advance

Yes it does, it'll stay in manual mode unless you force it into 7th gear at which point it will revert to full auto again. I guess they feel if you need it in 7th gear you don't need it in manual anymore!

Forgot to mention at any time you are in manual mode you can force it back to auto by holding the shifter to the right for a few seconds (which is effectively the same as changing up through several gears at once until you get to 7th, I guess they killed two birds with one stone there!).

Hello,
Thanks for that. Just to clarify, at no point would you see a 7 on the dash display?

That's correct - there's no 7 displayed.

Full range, which is the default state, is displayed as “D” rather than 7.

‘Tap Left' shifts down 1 gear and limits range to that gear

‘Hold Left' limits range to current gear and then shifts down by up to 4 gears to gear that gives optimum acceleration and engine braking <not confirmed>

‘Tap Right’ shifts up 1 gear and, if currently limited to a lower range, extends range to the new gear

‘Hold Right’ restores full range i.e. “D” (and shifts up if not in optimum gear for full range)

‘Hold’ by tipping and holding in place for approx.1 second.

Won’t select a gear which would put engine out of its normal rev range.

If maximum engine speed is reached, will shift up regardless of range restrictions.

It will cycle through 1 to 6 then into D when in D and you nudge the lever. I take it the car has a C/S mode not a C/S/M mode.

Hello, yes it has the c/s button, not c/s/m.
Many thanks again.

The difference is that on C/S/M boxes, the manual setting will display a 7.
