Why do people do this? The E350 is a very respectable car in its own right. Obviously the former owner was a little under-endowed in the trouser department..

Agreed - as a modded 350 it's ok, as an imitation E63, it's avin a laff.

I've had both powerunits, one directly after the other and I can tell you, similar torque or not, they are chalk and cheese on the road.

Just a stab in the dark but it could be that the owner wants to be seen driving a more exclusive car than he owns. Something along these lines.

Agreed there are those that like to tell their mates they've got an AMG when they haven't (even though half the Merc line up seem to be called AMG now but that's another thread ), but there are those for whom this is the nearest they will get.

I once had a BMW E36 M3 Evolution and some guy walked up to me in a car park once and said it was a fake and why did I bother badging a standard BMW to look like an M3...

I only had to show him 'M Power' stamped on the engine but educated him on what made it a genuine M3.

But I think when you know what you've got under you hood you don't need to prove nothing to nobody

On many occasions buffoons have commented how my 63 is a well tarted up diesel
