Great looking W124, good thing you dont have the 500E since petrol is nearly £1.20/litre!!

Enjoy!

I see you're trying to turn your car into a 500e. :D

Anyway it looks great. :thumb:

First class!

What mods did you do....

W.

Thanks guys! I was going to turn it into a 500E look a like but then just the front bumper itself completed the whole look of the car.

These bumpers should have been an option back in 1993 to 1995!

Theres quite a few mods that you need to do, and they need to be done very precisely and in a certain way otherwise the whole thing just bends and twists. But mainly its logical thinking in terms of where the stress points are going to be and how to relief it.

Looks good dude!
Just need an Avantgarde grill to tidy up the front now.

Also, from the front, the bumper now looks wider than the wings, naturally of course. Have you tried the spacers AMG used on the 124s to make the arches 0.75"(IIRC) wider?
Would deffo complete it i think!

If you do have it already then good stuff and ignore my post.

Last but not least, take the E36 and AMG badge of the back dude.
Its a clean car which should have a clean rear end!

Looking amazing Niks, I see you have gone for the OEM look to paint it grey as with the rest of the car mouldings and rear bumper. Will agree with pupsi on the avantgarde grill too.

Thanks guys. I was thinking of removing the badges but I definately want to keep the original grill, keeps it time period.

Also, does anyone know a way how to wire up those fog lamps in the bumper??

I did insert the AMG spacers at the front of the wing, only need to do the second ones behind the wheel arch now when I get more time.

Also, I still need to make a makeshift inner fender guard which goes to the bottom of the front bumper to protect the rear of the foglamps against water/dirt/mud.

Finally...Im still debating whether to put the headlamp washer/wipers on (even though they will be non functional), any suggestions?

Don`t,it looks very nice as it is :)

Hey Niks,

Car looks very tidy, regarding your fog lamps, did your 500e ones come with any wiring? if they did you can splice them into your current fogs and have them come on when they do. If you didnt get the wires i'm sure its not too hard a job to wire them up, let me know if you need a hand.

K

hi mbk... the fogs have wires coming out of them with small little connectors on the ends, they arent long though, about 20cm long. I wouldn't have a clue how to fit these and get them working so would defo need a hand wiring them up.

wouldn't it overload the fuse if you connect more than 1 pair of fogs onto the same ring?

just sent you a text.

Regarding overloading the fuse, My AMG fogs (factory) are wired using original AMG piggy back connectors that connect to the fog lamps in the headlight unit, so i guess it should be fine.

If you have fitted the 500e bumper, then you may as well wire it up like a 500e.

That means the only fog lamps should be those in the bumper. 500e's don't have fogs in the main headlamp units. The stock w124's fog lamp section in the main headlamp unit is where the 500e 'flasher' beam resides.

So run the fog lamp positive wire down to your fogs and run the flasher beam wire from the main headlamp section to the old fog lamp section....and remove the black metal clip which sits in front of the old fog lamp bulb in the main headlamp to get the main beam setup.

Should take less than 60 mins to do all that and you then have true 500e setup.

Ps i have removed the headlamp wash/wipe from nearly all my mercs....looks much smoother, cleaner with no wash/wipe.

Wouldn't I need 500E lenses as well then? Because the lenses on the standard 124 are designed for fog throw and not main beam throw. That means I'll lose the main beam throw completely if I went for the 500E setup wouldnt it?

No, the stock lenses won't distort the main beam throw at all, certainly not for MOT testing. My black 500e has stock w124 lenses and it's had no issues at MOT.

500E lenses are not a neccesity at all. Although they look much better...i finally managed to get a set of original 500e lenses for my black 500e....they are NLA from MB now unless you buy the entire headlamp unit

Thats interesting! I had the MOT thing lighting up all over my head wondering if it will effect it or not.

Would I need to change the bulb in the fog lamp part of the headlamp to a different one for it to cope with the main beam power?

Since I have no experience in doing this, would it be possible to write me out some step by step instructions with the colour coding as well of the wires so I can differentiate which ones are positive and negative?

Hi Niks,

Nope, same bulb. All you do is remove the front headlamp unit lens and remove the black metal clip that sits in front of the old fog lamp bulb. It's a spring loaded clip so just pinch and pull.

I'll try and write up color codes and send later.
