500SL going cheap

I like the new SL style grill, lifts the car a bit me thinks in terms of age. Whats up with the the front tow hook cover though ?

Hi

Is that the troublesome Adaptive Damping System or whatever its called??

Doesn't look to me like it's got ADS.

ADS isn't particularly troublesome (seems more reliable than the suspension on the R230 and CL, for example). But it is expensive to fix IF it goes wrong.

Incidentally that ad. is full of the usual eBay rubbish e.g. "originally cost over £100,000" (no way), "production of this particular type was stopped in 06/1993" (what?), etc.

Not sure what's with the fixed aerial on the o/s rear wing. Wheels are replicas, obviously. It's had the later clear indicators and side repeaters fitted.

Hi

I was just going on the black boxes on top of each shock absorber in the engine bay pic.

I only followed the link to check on that grill and you're right, it's not bad!

It looks like someone's tried to put it on backwards or something but it makes me wonder if the car has been towed recently...

Those are just the mounts. With ADS there's a hydraulic pipe going into each ... see top one in this pic.

Cheap at the moment but no mention as to do they throw in the medallion and chest wig, or does one have to buy those separately?

Well I for one hope it doesnt go for too much more.......
(I may have a Golf and and a 1982 500sl for sale soon though)

Seems a little strange for the front to have been quite seriously 'facelifted' yet it still has the old shape rear lights. Just call me Mr Suspicious but I'd be wondering if it'd had frontal damage ...

The reason for the grill and lights are he had an accident nearly 2 years ago, went into the back of someone.
At least he is up front about it.

Ah, OK ... hadn't seen that (only added today). He actually says he drove into the front of another car.

I think it would take a bit more than 20 mph to damage the grille and the bonnet. Maybe he was only doing 20 as stated, but the other car was doing 30 ...

Agree - cost 74k in 1993- 100k is a bit ambitious -don't see what extras this car has to cover the 26k extra claimed.
Doubt any SL of that year was specced up for 100k or over.
As for the "06/1993" date , only date i can find is 08/93 when rebadged SL500 and c/control standard

I don't think it has any options, certainly none of the expensive ones (AMG 3-piece wheels, AMG body kit, ADS).

The 600SL was around by then ... 100k would have got you one of those instead.

Like I said, usual eBay advert rubbish.

I went to £4000 then I had visitors and forgot about it:crazy:

Why didn't you just put in what you were prepared to pay for the car as a maximum bid
