Intermittent problem with the 500, three times over last two months, (twice with SWMBO and once when I was driving) she seems to lose power and the accelerator pedal feels very heavy after 2 to ten minutes this disappears and she goes goes back to her old self.

Any ideas?

Try the MAF this is a variable factor thing

Some engines respond to having the MAF unplugged, try it and see.

This is the most common fault on all post that read like yours, and yes it will make the throttle feel heaving as the power output is down

Nothing to do with MAS as the car if i assume correctly is a J reg. There is no Mas sensor;)

Likely problem lies with the ASR sidem of things (i'm assuming it does have it). Very common issue but theproblem varies from wheel signal senders to ASR control units.

You need someone with the primative diagnostics to check the codes for you.

I did not see the J reg bit.

If it is the ASR then the lamp comes on until you turn engine off and back on, and the fault clears till the next time.

I gave a stack of info to Jay on this and could still have ir somewhere

I have come back again as both the rusky site and WIS says that the 119 has an air flow sensor ?????

Wouldn't cause the stiff accelearot pedal. Characteristic trait of the ASR sytem playing up.

AIr flow sensor is the big thing the fuel distributor sits on if i'm not mistaken. Very very rarely go wrong on them.

As the accelerator mode fault only applies to ASR cars and the lamp comes on to indicate ASR off in the fault condition, we must wait and see.

The MAS is the last thing after the air intake box before it joins the intake manifold.

MB list it as "engine occasionally slugish during acceleration and/or misses under load" Thats common for all of them

Thanks for all the input. It is J Reg (Feb '92) it'll be plugged in to a STAR later today or Tuesday so all should become clear....

No lights on when running.

Update: No faults showing on reading, fault not replicating, looks like I'm stuck with it till it shows up again....grr:mad:
