Hello people of MBClub UK,

Ive done 9600 miles on my rear tyres from new and soon due to replace them. Currently running Continental Tyres that mercedes provided from new i find them amazing for grip when pushing it but life span is poor.

I just want to know peoples thoughts on their tyres because iv had no experience. Quiet ROAD NOISE and high milage is what id love.

THANK YOU for your help Guys :

9600 miles

I think I need to change my driving style as I'm almost done with my second set after 11,000 miles

Plenty of decent rubber to choose from nowadays whether it be Michelin Sport, Eagle Asymmetric, Conti 5's, they all have something to offer and is really down to personal choice as everyone's opinion differs greatly.

I didn't like the Conti 3's which were previously fitted and lasted a mere 3700 miles, the Eagle's I have on at present have managed over 6000 miles of hard driving so I will be sticking with them. As for Noise......can't hear anything but the roar of the engine so seem ok :D

There are plenty of threads on this forum to sift through which will give you a better idea

Good luck and enjoy :thumb:

Always found the Michelin Pilot Sport and Pilot Supersport range to be very good, especially in the wet. Would look to be on track for getting 12000 miles plus out of the latter in mixed driving, but they are listed as being a few dbs louder than a lot of others

Thank you for your replies :)

After hard research and a sleepless night I've narrowed it down to two tyres:

Goodyear Eagle F1

Hankook Ventus S1 Evo1

The Goodyear Eagle F1 seems to have the best reviews and ratings at a very good price.

The Hankook Ventus S1 are being rolled out on some of the new mercedes now :) there are two version Evo1 and Evo2, I assume the Evo2 is better? Anyone tried the hankook.

Good price ?

Excellent price!! What is the link, Tyreleader? I will be using them from now on :)

I paid £620 inc fitting for 2 x 305's and that was with a discount!

Done 12000 on my 13plate E350CDiCoupe running
Pirelli p zero still plenty of life left in them , great in the wet and dry ,would buy these tyres again when these are done :thumb:

I've also fitted Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics in the past- great tyres.

The originals are quieter than the 2's, according to the decibel measurements published, but they are hard to find now (worth an ask though).

Ive managed to get the full set of Goodyears eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 with fitting from my local tyre shop for £590 which im very pleased with so going to go through with that next week :)

Yes Tyreleader, great site for tyres. Chris :)

Alzieboy: 12000miles and still plenty of life?! WOW thats amazing. There at a better price than the Goodyear Eagle F1 A2 :) I will looking into that in my next set, thankyou. Goodyear has won this round for me.

Developer: The Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 1 are still around, there come in at a way better price to. I couldn't decided out of the two versions, hate when there are too much choice. If the Asymmetric 1s are quieter and cheaper im probably best going for them. How mileage did you get out of them?

I can't be precise, sorry as I sold the car a year ago. The new owner is still running them, but I don't know his mileage.

I changed from SportContact 3's to the Goodyears and the cabin noise difference was significant.

really looking forward for my new set of shoes but gonna look forward saying good bye to the current ones.

BEST way to do a doughnut anybody? :)

Right so I got a set off tyres.

Set of goodyears eagle F1 asymmetric x 4 . The rears are asymmetric 2 and fronts asymmetric 1. Dealer was suppose to get me asymmetric 2's for the fronts.

Anyway I checked the price difference between the two and not very much at all. So all tyres and fitted for £590 (2x 235/35/19 and 2x 255/30/19). Person from the garage says they just the same tyre apart from minor updates so it's not like the tyres all mixed.

Just want to know people's opinion on this with mixing these tyres. Front asymmetric 1 and rears asymmetric 2.

Thanks

You will be fine, at least you have matching pairs.

I managed to get a full set of Goodyear A2 for £600-£650 fitted (Front 245/35/19 and Rears 275/30/19).

Thank you.

That's great. Next time I buy them I think I'll order them online and get a garage to fit them.

You should be happy with the F1 AS's, I found them to be a better tyre all round than the continentals. The only area where I thought the Conti's had a slight edge was in standing water.

Wear wise, mine lasted more than twice as long as previous continentals. This was on a 4x4 estate though, so pretty much even wear all round.

cheers, Steve

I'm just about to change the tyres on my Jaguar XKR .......

........ they've done just over 25,000 miles in 7 years and the rears are down to below 3mm and 3+mm respectively. 255/35/20 fronts and 285/30/20 rears on Dunlop Sport Maxx.

I think I'd cry (being a Yorkshireman) if I only got 10K or less from a set of tyres, but I'm also about the replace the ones on the CL, so perhaps I've a shock coming!

Others have covered this, and the Michelin PilotSS seemed best, but expensive and noisy. Am thinking of either Vredestein Ultrac Vortis or the Goodyear Eagle Fi 2s/

Still unsure whether to go up to 19" for the CL (2003TT) as, the more I look at the current wheels (18" Difdas (sp?)), the more I like them, though a bigger wheel would suit the car better imho.

Any thoughts, anyone?

Stuart

If the Eagle F1s last longer than my previous conti5s (11,000miles) I will be happy. Love the look of Eagle F1 ,weird I know but do look better - maybe cos it has some tread now. My old ones were in bad shape.
