7 speed auto, shifting from 2-1

Hi there, quick question, i took my car for a drive tonight and put the auto into s mode, it initially drove perfect, but after a while when i stopped at lights i noticed a disctintive jerk when it down shifted from 2nd to 1st, so i'm
Wondering if this is normal or do i have a problem???

mine did something similar
i took it in and they upgraded the g/box software
it seems to have solved it
several other forum members have done the same

It might be the rear subframe bushes, if they are rotted it will give a "clunk".

Cheers for the response guys, cars only done 32000 miles and i purchased it from mercedes with a 1 yeay warranty, i assume this software upgrade will be covered under the tier 1 warranty?? Also do i need to ask them to upgrade or just explain the issue, and how long does it take for them to do it??? Sorry for all the questions, just been a liitle worried about it this evening

Just tell them it jerks on the down-shift and leave it to them to sort.

Shak, my E280 7g had a harsh shift from 2nd to 1st, but only from cold. Once warmed up it was absolutely fine and I was very pleased with the 7g 'box, which was much smoother and better all round than the 5g I'd had previously.

I had a software update in March this year at the MB main dealer which cured the 2nd to 1st change when cold, but spoiled every other one! Since then I've had the transmission fluid changed, the gearbox adaptions reset and it is still nothing like as smooth as it was originally. Oh, and the harsh shift when cold is now back again too!

If you rarely get a harsh shift, then after my experience with software tinkering, I'd be more inclined to leave well alone. I've gone from being really delighted with the 7g to cursing the damn thing every time I drive it following the 'improved' software update (which apparently can't be uninstalled).

Mines been fine cold and warm but just did it twice when i was nearly home last night, not had a chance to take it for a drive again since. Other then the down shift from 2-1 the box is really smooth, so this update is a bit of a worry as i don't wanna ruin the smoothness, the other option is to just use c mode instead of s :-/

Get it looked at. I had a W203 with 7G that did the jerk (it was a real jerk, very noticeable), from 2-1. It was about 40k at the time.

MB drained the fluid, which was burnt, and changed the gearbox.

Its in merc bolton today, cars been fine since the problem first occured, will keep you posted when it gets diagnosed.
