9 speed auto gearbox problems

I am lucky enough to have a 2017 CLS but having a intermittent problem with the 9 speed box, about once every month to six week it gets jammed in 3 or 4th, not a major problem as I can change it manually. What is a concern is the strong burning smell around the car after one of these incidents, smells like very hot or burning rubber, I intend to contact my dealer over this but just wondered if anyone had experienced or heard of anything like it before.

Is it diesel? That smell could be the DPF regeneratating. I wonder if the gear box sticking in gear is the car trying to get the revs up to complete the regen? Worth taking it in to check it out.

Sounds exactly like the DPF regenerating. It's holding onto gears to keep the revs higher to get more heat through the DPF.

Sound like the dpf, as already stated.

My E class has done it a few times, holds a lower gear than normal and when you get out you can smell something burny. Under bonnet temp is noticeably hotter too.

Another vote for dpf regeneration, the process is as described if not used on long runs.

Holy crap! I'm glad I read this.
My CLS350 was doing this a short time ago and it scared the piss out of me. Higher then normal revs, holding gears, burning rubber smell. I thought I'd bought a lemon.
