91' - 500SL - Albrex Supercharger

ADS issues think this in known problem with the R129 and right pain to resolve.

ADS is quite rare seeing as 600s aren't common and very few 500s had it specified. Only a few specialists know how it works - and the parts are very expensive. A complete overhaul is about £5k.

Should the "decent" SL 60 materialize for around 8k, as stated please give me a shout.

If you could find a 60 it would have been cheaper - and better, however not really the argument.

Most tuners haven't bothered with the M119 for a reason...

18K.......D'oh ! I thought it was going to be cheaper ???

I think that all things considered we both know what the other means and would seem to have far too much free time on our hands today :)

All things considered I'd take AMGs engineering throughout the whole car rather than venture into the unknown and spend a fortune on adding a supercharger or paying £8k for a high mile one-off with issues.

As a temporary measure why not try the eBay resistor and electric supercharger on your W124 ;).

I don't think Jeff spent a fortune as he bought the car already done, which was why I said it was cheaper than buying an SL60. It was cheaper than an SL60 was'nt it ? Is 100k high mileage for a r129 ?

I did look at the the electric superchargers but decided on 2 x Garrett Gt 28's instead........much more shiny :)

I like my high mileage one-off and the issues it has.

ADS is right pain. Not overly interested if the the car can drop 15 cm as it gains speed. Or that I can lift the front when I come to a speed bump.

I can source all the parts to put the ADS II version in for less than £400 pounds and then I have to find someone to put it in.

But if I can get it work again without changing the wiring loom that would be nice.

It doesn't stop me enjoying the car and spanking unsuspecting individuals.

To me its a bit of fun.

He bought the car half finished and in a poor state judging by the problems it has running. It will be interesting to see the final cost all in when the brakes are up to scratch and the ECU is mapped correctly - then there's the possibility the injectors will need to be changed for niggles to be ironed out.

Double that original purchase price for what will then be a high mile early R129.

So in the long term - no it won't be cheaper than an SL60.

ADSII will not work with ADSI - you'll need to change everything.

I don't think anyone mentioned long term........I merely said that the car was purchased for a lower price than one would expect to pay for an SL60

A car like Jeff's is a long term project - anyone can see that. You don't buy into these things to make money as you never will - it's done out of passion and all due respect to him for taking the plunge.

Other members are interested because they might want to go down the same route of adding a supercharger to their own car - in which case we're discussing the pros and cons.

You can continue to be obtuse if you like - I'm here all week ;).

To me its a bit a fun with some challenges.

I'm upgrading brakes because I like the idea on taking it on a track one day and well stopping

We only found it was running out of fuel on a sustained run on the Dyno.

I wonder how many members have actually taken their car on a Dyno run.
It run's fine in everyday driving even when pushed.... welll alot.

What are injectors now days £75 each and someone to setup the ecu correctly £500?

Ok shoot me for picking up an old slightly tired but well loved SL and breathing a bit of live into her again..

Ohhh BTW I even bought a pano roof for her so the kids in the winter can look at the trees and clouds....

I know where are the nails/hammer/cross..... guys like me need to controlled.... :)

Who's being obtuse, I don't normally bother but I thought just this once I would join you in pedants corner as it must be lonely after a while;)

A shame you bothered as it was quite peaceful ;).

Jeff setting up the injectors and ECU is not as simple as you might think - as a member of BenzWorld have a search for a thread regarding a later R129 supercharged by HPS. I suggest you get comfortable, however, as it goes on a bit!

Did the panoramic roof fit OK? According to MB the seals need to be changed to be compatible with pre-'96 cars - though I've not verified it myself.

Oh boy ...started something didn't I !!.. ... I was just making a casual and throw away observation that it would have been cheaper to buy a 60 :D :D ......I'm sure he's having fun doing what he's doing, and why shouldn't he.....things like that are not about money...(even though it would have been cheaper:devil:)

Hey, if you really like superchargers, what about a Veryon? :D

Thanks for the thread already chatting to those chaps.

In respect of the pano room you either change the seals or drop the window 1/4 of inch before you close the door and then fully close the windows with the central locking.

Both SK and I have bought Pano's for our pre 96' cars. We asked BobTerry off another can we create a switch to do what the post 96 cars do.

He say if can getting someone to make it he will programme it for free.

Little update for you.

I have run 8 lots of injector cleaner through the system.

Since then I have been able to run in 3rd gear sustained for over 8 miles at the following RPM's

4500 - 5000 - 5500 - 6000 rpm's.

Think its time to do another dyno run. Who in the UK fancies coming along?
