R129 m113 500sl starting issues

During the problem the plugs could well have suffered and be partially fouled. I'd be tempted to take it for a proper run.

12.58v this morning. Haven’t tried to start it, and won’t today (no need!). I’ll keep monitoring the battery until Tuesday when I can get a new battery ordered. I’ll report back on progress then, probably although it will be next weekend before I can fit it. Thanks for all the helpful thoughts and advice so far!

Good advice but it’s not going anywhere until I am confident the issue has been solved. Don’t want it conking out away from home!

Okay, so you’ve at least ruled out the battery. I have them on ctek permanently and that isn’t as good as using the cars regularly.

Wet plugs = no spark. (Confirm with check for spark).
Sooty plugs = rich mixture - which has to be a suspicion given it is generally better behaved when cold and worsens as it warms.

It is what is happening (or not happening) in the combustion chambers that matters. The plugs can answer that.
I’d do the simple stuff first and agree, I’d check the plugs. They might give some clues. Also, make sure the coil packs are ok. When the packs went on my m/cycle, I had rough idle but the motor would rev ok.

Battery changed. Early days but it’s starting fine now. It’s due a service so I’ll pull the plugs, check/change fuel and air filters etc. The battery gives it a fighting chance and I’ll keep an eye out for other issues such as coil packs. Pleased it’s not the cps but I have a unused spare now!

Still working fine. Pretty sure it was the battery.
