911 for 24 hrs

Sounds like a challenge coming on methinks.

"How far can I get on a freebie 24hr test drive?"

I'll wager to the Ring, plus a few laps, then back for tea and medals :D

Some good ideas!! ;)

I'm tempted to do something unusual just for the heck of it. Since I've arranged it I've been having completely irrational thoughts like:

Now, if we re-mortgage the house, sell both cars, don't go out to eat quite so often, call a halt to my wife's shopping addiction, and keep it for at least 10 years, then we could possibly maybe think about the possibility of maybe...

...STOP!! I must stop having these thoughts!!

LOL! We keep thinking that if we sell the house we could afford a DB9! For some reason the kids are not overly impressed with the idea...

Ah yes - the 911 Cabrio...

...I think it will be the 911 Carrer 4S Cabriolet for me!!

How did you do this?, was it by getting in touch with Porsche GB directly asking for info on the 997???

I contacted the dealer through the www.porsche.co.uk website. All via email until today.

I went over and spoke to the chap I've been dealing with and he seems like a nice chap, and the attitude of the staff and the 'feel' of the place are a world a way from our most local Porsche Centre - small, nice area, nice feel, etc.

He's ex-MB, and knows the guys at my local MB dealer too. Shame he said a few times that MBs weren't much cop - there's a way of saying stuff, and that's not what someone with two MBs wants to hear!! I won't hold it against him for now though!!

Spent plenty of time talking to us even though it was very busy (again unlike our local Porsche Centre). Seems like they genuinely might be interested in developing relationships rather than railroading into a purchase.

Had our local Porsche Centre not ignored me completely - and I mean completely - I might never have had the C and ML. We went to get a Cayenne for Mrs D, but following the rude and unforgivable attitude at our local centre we went elsewhere and bought the ML.

However the facelift Cayenne is looming, and the V6 has had a thorough going over it seems, and so will be packing 295bhp (rather than 250bhp). They've invited us to the launch, so we'll see what happens - very few remaining build slots this year though.

The 911 I'll be driving on the 24hr test drive is one of the colour combinations I'm keen on - silver with Cocoa leather. Looks nice with a capital "F"!!

My wife has an incredible knack of sniffing out the most expensive version of anything, whether it be perfume, clothes, food, jewellery, and cars. Having said she doesn't like Porches except for the Cayenne for some time now - she walked in and said "Oooh, I like that one" ...pointing at a Carrera GT!!

Mine is like that too, although she likes most Porsches. Shhhhh!, I love the Cayenne too :o , especially in facelift form (better duck for cover now!). Now the current Cayennes are starting to look dated, just as they were getting cheap enough :)

I think they receive special classes on it at school. You know, the girls have a few of those 'girls only' classes instead of PE?? And we always thought it was about girly stuff - they were being converted into highly trained spenders!! :D

Disclaimer: No offence to any ladies intended. Especially Mrs D if she's reading. My credit card really can't take another beating!!

I just started to play around with the configurator on the Porsche website, got a Cayenne (not even an S!!!) upto £54k I thought I was being sensible!

Haven't even started on the 997 yet!

:D We can beat the women at spending!

What's wrong with 'George' at ASDA - that's what I want to know!

Chap at dealer said today that there's a sweet spot at about £45k for the Cayenne V6. Also mentioned a chap who's got the cost of his C4S upto £96k by specifying Macassar wood trim. It looks gorgeous, but costs an arm and a leg - incredibley expensive. Said not only will he lose all of the cost, but it may even have a negative impact of resale value. The customer apparently said "I don't mind - it's what I want".

...or even all the other clothes in the wardrobe, in the spare room, still at her parents house, in boxes in the garage, etc!! Some of it with tags on!!

I'll never understand why people buy clothes that they never ever wear. It took me years to buy a dinner jacket as I thought I'd hardly ever use it!! ;)

Wood in 911s is very unpopular - I drove a Carrera 4 with a full wood pack - to say it looked out of place was an understatement!

Macassar trim for those that are thinking Que??

Noticed the Carrera GT I saw today had a dark wood spherical gear knob. Not what I expected in a car like that. Nice inside though - expected it to be stripped out with exposed carbon and aluminium everywhere.

I've never had any invitations to test nice cars. Perhaps they have heard about me hitting 330kph in a Veyron. Sorry forgot the camera so no avatar pics. In fact if I had taken the video camera a friend lent me I would have probably forgotten to take the lense cap off.

Well - here's the one I took out for the 24hr test drive on 3rd Nov 2006...

As a result of their customer service I am now a Porsche Owner - still have the W211 as well...

Very nice, but - just out of pure curiosity - how did you manage to take such 'summery' pics in November?

Karl

It was one of the VERY COLD and bright days, plus I have this lovely spot I always use...

Watford tends to get the best of the weather - avoiding all worst.

Those particular pics were taken on 02-Nov-2006 at 15:34/35 - on the school run... :)
