a-class problem

I have a problem with an a-class 1998 a160 elegance semi automatic.
'F' is displayed in display instead of n (for neutral), it goes into every gear but all it says in display is 'f', the car will not move fwd or reverse, also it will not go above 2000 rpm with eccelerator pedal on the floor. this happened 2 days ago and yesterday it drove fine!!! ????????
Does anyone have any ideas what would cause it and if it is likely to return! ?

i have the same problem with my A190 semi. This is a very common fault on this car. basically there is a problem with your Air mass meter and ECU unit. it is a combind unit in these cars.

after running around for the last month trying to find a cheap way to fix the problem i decided to get it done from the stealership. part on its own costs £1100 plus VAT.

I've tried BBA Reman who say they can repair the part at a fraction of the cost but this didn't work. its best left to the stealers at least you'll get a warranty for the work
