Hi All!

One day I got home from a day out car had been fine all day, parked it on the drive left it for about 2 hours, returned to the car to go back out in it but it wouldnt start... I had it diagnosed and the mechanic said it was the ECU mass air flow. So I sent that off to be repaired, receieved it back 260 pounds later, fitted it to the car and it still wont fire or start... Have charged battery, put a new crankshaft sensor and just dont know where to go from here...

Can anyone help. Please ask if anymore info is needed.

Cheers, Joe!

Does it turn over ?

Does it have an immobiliser ?

Does it come up with start error in the cluster?
Have you had the fault codes read?
Deffinatly got fuel?
Does. It appear to turn over quick? Timing chains jump/snap

Thanks for the response from you both!

Howard - Yes it does turn over, however it does not fire.... And yes I think it does have an immobilizer. Do you have any clue?

Cheers

Seen this before , where the immobiliser was the problem , not allowing the car to start.

Worth getting a competent auto electrician to look at it , he should be able to bypass it if that is the cause

Good luck

Hi auto-mobile.

It does not come up with a start error but "ESP/BAS" does appear?

The fault codes that were found once read was PO100 and PO121.

There is fuel in it, not much mind but im sure there is more than enough to start the car.

It doesnt turnover quick, its quite normal.

Thanks very much for your help!

Ok howard thanks! I will have a look for a auto electrician near by!

Thanks for your help!

I was told the ECU wouldnt need remapping/re programming to the car once it had been repaired, anyone know if this is true or not?

Who repaired it ?

We had ours done on our a190 by ecutesting.com , they test before repair and if it doesn't need fixing , you pay a test charge of £30. Presume yours was tested first ?

In theory , it should just go back on with no coding needed , although some specialists will 'bootstrap' it , which I don't fully understand , but involves a form of coding I believe. Perhaps a specialist can comment ?

It was repaired by allcarelectronics.com.

Yes they test it before and it did have faults... So they repaired it. They told us that it would go straight back in the car fine... However, bootstrapping was mentioned to me but didnt think it would be needed. I dont understand it either nor know whether it needs it doing or not.

Maybe I should contact some specialists again and talk to them.

Brilliant! I will try call them now but if no answer I will call tomorrow. Thanks for your time and effort!

No worries , please let us know how you get on.

A lot of people slate the old A class , but I love ours !

They can be a labour of love , but there is a lot you can do to keep them going , relatively inexpensively.

If you haven't already , have a look at loftys site , which is the a class owners bible. Full of fixes for common problems.

I will definitely let you know! Yeah, I really like ours. Ours is purple like the one in the picture below your comments.

Ive been on that site already, its brilliant, helped me with alot already.

I hope I can fix it soon!

Ours has got the full Brabus kit , wheels and exhaust too.

Pretty rare in purple ! Look after it ;)

Hi again! I called Forrera - They said it isnt the immobilizer because it is turning over... He said it could possibly be fuel related or spark related. Other than that he said it it is too difficult to explain over phone how to test fuel pump but he MIGHT put pictures on his facebook page in attempt to show me how.

At least I can rule out immobilizer :)

Hi again howard, thanks for the link but I have already found it :) I have got a ammeter and will be testing tomorrow.
