Hi everyone,

I have a few questions:

1. I have a 2001 C 200 CDI, manual transmission and after the temperatures dropped and after the heavy rains the car wouldn't start, it couldn't even crank. The day before that it was just OK. I have connected it to another battery but that didn't help, so I guess it is not the battery problem, although it is 6 years old. The other electricity supplied devices worked (radio, remote unlocking...) What can it be? The fuse went wet?

2. Where would you buy dual mass flywheel and complete clutch for this car if you had to change it on your car? I want a quality one, so I would rather pay a little bit more to get a proper one, than getting a cheap but low quality copy.

Thanks.

1, Could be starter motor?

2, Euro Car Parts on here maybe able to help you with a LUK clutch and Flywheel

1. Does the solenoid 'click' at all?

If it does not, then it could be an issue with the solenoid, or its contacts/wiring.

Did you check the earth strap connection for the batterry?

In the olden days we would use a couple of heavy duty wires to connect - and + directly to the solenoid body and electric contact respectively. This bypasses any issues with the ignition switch or wiring. But be careful - the car must be in Neutral (and preferably with someone in the driver's seat) and mind that spark when the wire makes contact.

Other things that could stop the engine from cracking are immobiliser issues, or faulty sensor (cam or crack). These can be diagnosed using STAR.

And last, are you sure that the other battery you used is 100% good?

2. I am partial to original MB parts in general.

EDIT: further to the previous post by Merc85, I used Luk in the past - they are OE for several German marques - and their clutches are very good.

Starter motor? I can't tell. I know that the battery from the other car it was connected to was OK, the battery wasn't put in my car, but it was connected to my battery while the other car's engine was on.
I couldn't hear solenoid clicking, but when the key went in position 2 it turned on the cylinder heater, but there was no key clicking as it used to be before.
I really think this is an overmoisture problem with fuses, since there is a little crack within the rubber under the windscreen that allows water to go under the hood. If so, would drainage resolve the problem? Thanks for advice

Same problem again, last time the car started after a few days just like that, no intervention was needed. The battery is OK, the lock 'clicks' when the key is inserted, so I guess it is either fuse or starter motor. Any suggestions?

If you have trouble reading any of the text and need to enlarge it, click on it and this will open a new window with it in Photobucket, hover your cursor over the image and a set of tools will appear in the top right hand corner, click on the magnifying glass with the + symbol inside it.

Problem solved. The device which starts the starter motor and which is inside it was broken.
