Hi members,
I am new here, i am trying to track down a mercedes coupe which was in our family many moons ago, was with us from 1974-76, the long term plan here is to track this car down and hopefully re-own it one day, as a starting point i need to find out if it is still in existence!, dont have the important bit ie vin number, what we do have are a reg number from period (dvla already confirm number not currently in use). the details we have are MERCEDES 280SE COUPE (W111) 3.5 VERSION, dark flat blue, we think 1970 could be slightly out here (68-72?) reg number in 1976 whilst in our family was ...3 BLU..., any info at all would be most greatfull no mater how small, or if you think you recognise the reg number from elsewhere please get in touch, thankyou regards andy.

Welcome to the forum Andy. Good Luck. Sorry I have no info.

Can i suggest you try every forum out there.

One in particular has a reputation for being more suited to the older cars.

Good luck

Don't know about the car but the reg number 3BLU is not registered to any vehicle in UK

I suggest you try a letter to the Gazette, the magazine of the Mercedes-Benz Club: details at The Mercedes-Benz Club

One of the members may recognise either the description and/or the distinctive number plate.

Good luck with your search.

Good luck with your search, although unless you have something specific like the engine or chassis numbers, I think your chances of identifying the right car are slim.

With regard to the number plate, a quick search at tyre-shopper.co.uk suggests that it was last seen on an E Class, so there's a chance that someone on one of the Mercedes-Benz forums may know about its history.

Registration: 3 BLU
Make: MERCEDES
Model: E-CLASS (SALOON)
Colour: BLACK

The official Mercedes-Benz Club , as has already been suggested , is probably your best bet as most owners of older models tend to join it .

There were only something like 25,000 3.5 Coupes and Cabriolets built for the whole world , so they are a fairly rare car these days .
