A tale of 2 watches

Saw an Antiques Roadshow a week or two ago. I can’t remember which watch it was, probably a Rolex, not modern.
The presenter praised the patina & the fact that it had not had replacement dial, crystal, bracelet, etc. Said it was worth more to collectors :dk:
Originality is key for older pieces, the difference matching hands and dial can make on a vintage watch is considerable. The drive from the servicing body is to mint the piece and invoice accordingly.

I’ve got a couple of Tissot automatics I’ve had for years. Cheapest way of putting an Eta 2824 on your wrist I think. Very reliable and keeps good time.

i have some nice watches but my G shock is worn 99% of the time . had it years and still going strong

Hi , My watch cost £190.00 from Argos in 2015.Its accurate to + - 20 seconds per year !
As I have said previously, all watches tell the time, just as all cars provide transport. The choice of brand is an individual choice. People should not be judged on their choices.

I have a Tissot rock watch somewhere that my ex bought me in the 80's or 90's. Lovely looking thing but could barely see the hands! Must dig it out and see if it's worth anything

Ebay would suggest don't put yourself out too much to find it.

Got my Tag Heuer Calibre 1887 in for service at the moment

£550 lighter but it’s a full strip down, inclusive of all parts and full case and bracelet refinish.

First world pain !!

lol. Found it (R150 909-7) and still has the original strap with very little wear (they really are difficult to read!) Circa £50 but I'll need to get a battery in it first. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

Have been out today browsing the various watch vendors in Bury St Edmunds.
i’ve pretty much given up on the idea of a Tag Monaco and thought I was going to buy a Tissot Seamaster 1000. Seeing it in the flesh though I thought it was too chunky.
Other automatic Tissot watches under consideration but nothing jumps out & says “buy me”.
The other watch which caught my eye was a Tag Carrera which I thought may be a possible used buy - haven’t found one yet at the price I would want to pay for a pre-owned one in acceptable condition.

What put you off the Monaco ?

Iconic design and there`s no mistaking it for anything else , among watch "people".

Prices have increased substantially from when I started looking a year or so ago. Also, seeing new ones today they are also chunkier than I imagined

I paid £1100 off list when i got mine last year , it made it less than most of the almost new pre-owned ones.

I played a couple of dealerships off against each other , Goldsmiths were the winners.

Each to his own ....I have only had the one watch for 20 years, lusted after many, but like cars, nothing would have given me more than I had already.

Yeah I have many watches and many cars. I grew up on Carry-On movies so I like variety.

The Seastar 1000 is a pretty chunky thing, but I guess for a diving watch with the depth capacity it’s a given. I love the look, but on my skinny wrists would look ridiculous

Going to Abu Dhabi tomorrow week for a short break and going to check out the price of a Breitling Navtimer B01
Such a handsome watch I might treat myself if the price is favourable. A second hand one is also an attractive alternative.

I can’t find a Tissot Seamaster. All I’ve seen is a Seastar.

AB0137211B1P1 - Swiss Watches Direct - Buy New Discounted Breitling Watches

I've bought two watches from SwissWatches Direct.
Despite the less than flashy website, they are a top-notch company and really nice helpful guys.
(I've no connection with the company apart from being a very satisfied customer)
