Hello

im hoping someone can help, we are having a nightmare.

A200 2014 Cdi

Had gearbox serviced by a local garage…and broke down 🤷‍♂️

comes up with : Without changing gear consult workshop'

Read it could be the battery….replaced battery with halfords battery…..still broke down🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Thought it was the gearbox service, took to a very reputable Merc independent, they re-did the gearbox service, updated the gearbox software….drove home fine….next morning broke down again….🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Spoke to the Merc garage and they thought it could be the Halfords battery….bought a Bosch battery….dove for 2 miles and broke down again 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😡

read it could be the actuator in the gearbox…but getting to my wits end, it’s cost £2000 already and no different

would the actuator show up on the diagnostics …?

Only had the car 2 months, and 5 weeks of that it not worked……so losing faith

Any help or advice would be very appreciated 🤞🤞

thanks

Who did you buy from, dealer or private?
If dealer you should have a warranty, get them to fix it.

A friend ……

so no warranty unfortunately

Justbread it could be the Aux battery…but that’s fully charged and showing 14.7 volts

14.7v with the engine running I hope!
If that is with the engine at rest, your charging system is over charging and possibly points to the fault.

You need to check for fault codes using star machine, almost certainly there will be gault code logged if that message comes up on dash

Strangely I had this warning come up recently after driving through a deep-ish puddle. It disappeared quickly and no issues with changing gear etc. Probably doesn’t help the OP other than I assume the fault came up due to an electrical issue caused by the water? Wasn’t a really deep puddle, not even half way up the wheels. I also lost power steering momentarily as i guess the water splashes onto the drive belt causing it to slip and lose power. Maybe the tension needs looking at, at next service.

Just spoken to another Merc garage they think we should only use a original Merc battery.

The indi garage said either the Merc or a Bosch, we fitted the bosch

Anyone had issues with non OEM batteries..?

It does at times sound like its cranking a little slow, could it be a starter motor / earth issue that draining the volts and throwing up a fault..??

The gearbox sensors was checked so looks like it not that.

Thanks

Please stop buying batteries, find out what the fault actually is. There’s probably nothing wrong with your ones from Halfords and Bosch. As already said, you need to have the codes read In the first instance.

Yha its booked to go back in this week, its a massive hassle and cost to get to the garage as it has to be delivered there, hoping its something simple

It might be cheaper and certainly more convenient to buy your own code reader, particularly with two Mercs in the family. I and many others here have the iCarsoft device which is pretty good value.

ace thanks i will look one up.

The Icarsoft are brilliant for the home mechanic, I had a big problem with my B200, wouldn’t change gear properly, steering went heavy, engine light on and lost power and ABS. Turned out it was a wheel bearing, diagnosed with Icarsoft.
