A140L
Hello.

I've searched the forum (and googled the problem) but I can't see anything relevant and I'm hope that the users of this forum may be able to advise me please...

We have 53 plate A140L which has been generally very good, except that in the last 6 months it is intermittently totally dead.

The car opens with the central locking, you put the key in and SRS lights up, but nothing else. No dials move and the dash doesn't light up. You can take the key out and try again. And again. It may work fine second time, or you may need to wait 5 mins, when it will just work.

We've tried using the other key which makes no difference. Sometimes it works just fine. It doesn't seem related to the weather.

Hope you can help us.
Thanks
andy

Good Morning Andy and welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you may have a dying ignition switch. Which is basically what the thing is you put the key into.

A diagnostic check should reveal all.

If you say where you are in the country someone will come up with a garage close to you which wont charge you an arm and a leg for diagnostics.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Were in South Manchester.

It was last serviced by a Mercedes main dealer a year ago and they said it had so many codes stored they couldn't tell what was wrong. It had a crank shaft position sensor but still seems to log P0335.

Once it starts, and you know in 2 seconds if its going to start, then it's fine and drives well.

How much is an ignition switch? Is it a unique part for the A-Class or is it shared?

Thanks
Andy

As said will be the ignition switch go to Mercedes I'm pretty sure you will see change from £20
