A45S to get 421bhp

I’m always interested in the “mapping” threads, particularly when involving cars still under manufacturers warranty from new. In the AMG world, as well as all other performance marques, the engines are in a state of tune that the factory believe will lead to as few issues as possible in their intended lifecycle of the engine, or that can be managed via a comprehensive and regular servicing schedule.
Not always. The C63 was artificially held back by a throttle restriction. They put the same engine in the E63 making the same power as a remapped C63 so clearly 510bhp is entirely warrantable and reliable.

I'd honestly be very surprised if there is much more headroom for power with a simple remap. You look at the cars that benefit most currently (Golf R etc) and the biggest change is a big lump of torque in the middle so the previous flat line has a big peak and maybe a little bit more up top.

Most turbo 4s are limited by two things and they're the same two things that have been around for years, turbo size for peak power and rod strength for torque.

The A45 always stood out to me as the engine was fairly peaky for a modern, factory car (ie peak torque not at 1500rpm) and the gains by remaps, in percentage terms, have shown this also as there hasn't been much the aftermarket can add without significant other changes.

Seeing where this is making it's power (and without seeing a graph) it would look to be much the same, you're not going to get too much more out of it without a bigger turbo at least.

I agree why would anyone want to map or modify a car from standard......in fact why would anyone build an extension on there house.....it’s not what the builder designed so will surly loose value.
There’s me thinking I could buy something, do what I want, have a laugh and enjoy it......or leave it stock polish it and get all excited that it’s never been used and never dirty........then again maybe I am just a bit crazy

Yes you have to be very careful now. So many people putting on a 'cheeky little map'. Its the normal makes as well not just AMG, look how many on here asking about mapping their CDI

Diesel engines are a lot less concerned about air to fuel ratio. They are happy to heavily smoke and still go, just look at “rolling coal” American pickups craze.

So out of the two, a badly remapped diesel will come out the winner. Not the petrol engine.

But yeah. Remap is second after insurance these days. Cheap rates due to lack of any warranty make them accessible. Why care about the longevity. Let the next owner worry about that in 24 months.

Interesting analogy, the slight difference with the house extension is that you won’t get the builder back in to knock it down , clear the site , and pretend it was never there in the first place when you sell the house. You actually make a big deal about it to increase the resale value of the property.

I’ve no problem with modifying cars if that’s what people want to do. If a map or mod is so great folk should be up front about it when moving their cars on. If it’s a “value add” then don’t hide the fact by removing it as some people do, there is still a place for honesty in this world, at least l hope so.

I’m sure you throughly enjoy what you’ve done to your car it looks like a lot of hard work and cash. I’m off out to enjoy my bog standard one which I enjoy too, whilst it’s shiny (very) it does get dirty (very) and I put miles on it (admittedly not a huge amount). Please pop along to any of the car meets I organise or attend in Yorkshire and the NE and we can talk C63, I’m sure everyone would love to see what you’ve done to yours.

Andy:)

There is no harm in tuning any car via a highly "reputable" tuner for the brand i.e. Brabus, Renntech, Vath or Carlsson etc. You get what you pay for!

As the saying goes "if you cannot do the time then do not do the crime" and expect to stand alone in regards to warrany claims.

Due to new regs and legislations big V8 engines are being gradually downsized with EQ boost technogy etc.

As much as I love Mercs and beong an AMG owner going down into central London i.e. Knightsbridge in an AMG will not batter an eye lid in comparision to the exotic super cars in comparision regardless if it is a A45 AMG or a V8 5.5L AMG.

Yes, the future of MB muscle cars is indeed 4-pot engines, and it's a gratifying feeling knowing that all these years I was a trail blazer, a path finder, a pioneer, an early adopter... I mean, I have been driving 4-pot Mercs for the better side of 20 years now, I saw the writing on the wall back in the nineties and I stayed ahead of the curve while those primitive dinosaurs were still driving their 12-cyl SL600s... ha!

Personally I find it hilarious, ReMaps are already out there for the A35. No doubt folk will be queuing up for some “cheap” power in the knowledge it’s “undetectable” by MB and won’t affect their warranty or residual values. Another one to avoid out of warranty.

I’m part of a 35 owners club and a guy who’s mapped his car is currently waiting for a new engine because it’s completely shot. Amazingly MB are paying for it when we’ve all seen what he’s done to his car and how he drives it

Fred in his shed?
He's very lucky M.B are paying for it.

It begs the question, why are MB paying? If that’s the case and the remap isn’t voiding the Warrenty on an engine failure why wouldn’t folk get A45 power for the cost of an A35, plus cost of a map?

I haven’t seen anything that’s still online about it being mapped, which I guess could be ok purpose. I’m told my other group members that it was though.

I thought part of the reason for introducing the A35 was to attract the Golf R , Audi S3 brigade and looks like it will go exactly the same way, “get it mapped mate, awesome free power, take it off when your PCP is up no one will know, see you at Chav Central tonight” :thumb:

When I swapped (briefly) from a C63 to a MK 7.5 R all people asked is what “Stage” was I taking it to? Wonder why residuals on the R is cr@&

Don’t get my started on people referring to their tuned cars as stages [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]

I completely understand people’s want for remapping etc, but I also see a huge amount of people driving their mapped cars with zero mechanical sympathy. Then being completely shocked when they blow up!

This whole “Stage” thing really irritates me for some unknown reason - is 1 the highest or 3? Or 10? Who knows? Who really cares?

I think it goes

Stage 1 - it’s just a map , free power , no one can even tell when you go to the garage

Stage 2 - map and a bits like air filter , zorst , get rid of the odd Cat, garage “may spot” it but probably not

Stage 3 - map , new turbo off a 40 tonne truck, zorst made out of scaffolding, garage will probably spot it because the con rods are poking out the side of the block

Oh , don’t bother doing anything with brakes and suspension so long as you’re running Michelin PS4s on 19s they will happily cope with 800 bhp :D

plenty of detailed reviews are now in . Early verdict is it is far more interesting to drive than an RS3, bit not quite the level of fun as an m2 competition which is RWD. But if you want 4 or 5 doors , then this is the pinnacle of the compact hatch segment currently.

Some of us do it properly and have no intention of deceiving MB. I do it because I’ve worked in Engineering for 30 years and love the challenge of “improving”, “enhancing” and moving the barriers to performance, in my opinion of course.

Mapping been about for years and years, but in most cases has improved, with reputable tuners linked to most marques, however there are still cowboys out there.

I agree that mapping / tuning a new lease car then selling on as standard is not good practice, likewise deceiving the Manufacturer at service / warranty time. It is however the world we live in and means stepping carefully on buying used cars.
