Hi Guys,

My CL500 is 10 years old, no issues with ABC, no leaks all works fine....however whats your views on ABC fluid change as a precautionary measure?

Look forward to your feedback....

Thanks,

It is a good idea. Chenge the filter too. You will need a Star to change the fluid.

thanks for info....what would be a reasonable indy price for fluid change & filter?

Take it to Olly. He and Jack know what they are doing with ABC. He's done the courses and did a superb job when I needed a valve block replacing. I think Olly was more shocked than I was at the price MB wanted for a new one. Oh well, all done now.

FWIW, You can flush ABC fluid using the raise/lower button on the center console. Its a long-winded procedure but a do-able DIY. HTH

Thanks for info...did you change yours this way?

Why not just change the fluid or use a flushing fluid, drive the car for a few months, playing with the height control, and change it again?

A splash of diesel or white spirit in the mineral oil will work wonders as a flushing agent.

yes I did DIY

Yes, when I changed the ABC pump on my driveway, I didn't have Star Diagnostic at the time. You have to raise and lower the car via the switch approx 20 times. RODEO can only be activated via STAR but its not essential. The filter SHOULD (sorry for caps lock) be replaced. This is because MB updated the filter to 3 Micron in 2005. If your car is pre-05 then it would have a 10 Micron filter as standard. This would stop any particles clogging up the valve blocks etc. HTH:D:D

If you do decide to DIY then please remember its a 2 person job as 1 of you will have to sit in the car pressing the button and another person to fill the reservoir with fresh oil. HTH
