hi all coming home from a funeral yesterday along the A55 just outside Queensferry and the ABS light- BAS esb came on ,frightened the life out of me so pulled over and rang my friendly garage who informed me not to worry i could carry on back to merseyside as it sounded like a brake sensor had gone , apparently they are quite common on mercs of my cars age , going in to get the laptop on it tomorrow so hope thats all it is fingers crossed :wallbash:

Yes probably an ABS sensor or reluctor ring. You need the codes read though as there are many different possibilities.

Definitly get the codes read as it can save a lot of time and money trying to guess whats wrong:bannana:

had the same problem myself not fixed yet. The next day after the light came on the ABS started to activate below 5mph so cant be driven. The repair I am going get done is new sensor and new wheel bearing . Not done it yet.

itll be checked first thing tomorrow ,let u all know how it turns out

hopefully the ABS does not start activating like mine has below 5mph. I got mine back driving by unplugging the wheel speed sensor. Doing this leaves you without ABS but at least the car drives . If you start to hear a loud kinda grinding noise and the car stopping you have the exact same problem as me. Don't have any great knowledge of cars just about 20 hours searching on internet.

hi Popes, only drove the car about 20miles after the lights came on and had no trouble , pulled in at a KFC near our home and after we came out no more lights came on so hoping its only the brake sensor but will find out tomorrow , but im still anxious that it may be something serious

My car travelled about 80 miles after the ABS and ESP light came on. On the way home from holiday so no option as four kids in the car. The ABS activating (grinding noise) only started the next morning when I tried to drive to work.

im hoping i dont have the same problem, but will find out about 9.30 this morning will let u all know how it goes on

well all, been to my local garage and the only fault code that was found is the brake sensor , under the drivers side footwell , im happy with that so on tuesday morning a new 1 will be installed

You can see why getting the codes read can save you a lot of money in the long run!

thats right, but glad i went to a indy and not a MB dealership to find out the problem as they are just to dear

Good stuff. A nice cheap repair. How much did the indy charge for the diagnostic? Just wondering as never had it done before. Think merc are supposed to be about £100.

dont know yet, he does all my work so told him to give me a price when he orders the part, he has looked after my different cars 3 bmws over a few yrs now and am well pleased with his work, he is 1 of the new breed of Mechanics a wizz lid with a computer and laptop, apparently they have to be these days as most cars are computer run he also does a lot of farm machinery work so knows the game wouldnt touch a MB main dealer with a bargepole

Nothing like a bit of MB agricultural !

mind u the 320 is no slouch get this wheel arch rust eliminated on monday, and then the new brake sensor and ill be happy

altho im told the sensor is fairly cheap about £20, & my garage is going to ring me with the cost and price to do the job i rung a main dealer and cost a quote of £88 plus vat surely they are wrong , maybe the parts chap ot mixed up with a different sensor ?
