My car is wanting the Adblu topped up. Have people found somewhere other than the dealer as I'm assuming I will pay top dollar there? Had heard Halfords do it but is that OK with the car. Mine is still under warranty.

My understanding (from a conversation with another owner) is that you get free top-ups of AdBlu at MB dealerships while the car is under warranty, but I could be wrong.

It's certainly worth the price of a phone call to find out.

Most petrol stations sell it

I'm nearly certain you get it for free at the dealer if it needs topping up between services.

Lookers Mercedes want to charge. Their line is if it needs doing between services then it's because you are doing a lot of miles. They are happy to book it into Service to be topped up though!

I asked about adblue when I bought my C250d and was told that it won't need topping up between services and will get topped up while being serviced.

Guess I should have asked "but what if it DOES need topping up between services?!"

I'm going to ask my salesman and then ask the service dept ;)

noticed last week my local Morrisons supermarket has started selling Adblue in 1.5 litre bottles. It was about £7.50

Halfrauds have it on offer as per the link earlier. £20 for 10litres. Just shoved it in and the error has gone. The manual says the Adblue tank is either 8l or 24l so must have a 24l in the C as nothing spilled out! Found some online 20l for the Halfords price so ordering that for next time.

I think MB dealers do it free for the first year. VW & Audi dealers have a fixed price of £1.50 per litre (that includes putting it in) - I think VAG jumped on the dealers as some where charging up to £70 for a fill and there were starting to be complaints about it in the press.

For our VW I buy it at TPS - VAG's Trade Parts Centre - in 5, 10 or 20L containers for around £1 per litre. I also got the filler tube for £7 (I think the fitting are all standard) but a funnel would probably have been easier.

Some forecourts, especially on motorways, have AdBlue pumps - it's even cheaper there, but you're going to be in amongst the trucks.

I think you'll find the nozzle on the pump for trucks is bigger also watch for the pressure because a truck will fill a lot faster because of the amount required, if you've ever tried filling a car with diesel from a truck pump you'll know what I mean.
There's nothing stopping you filling a container though and it's about 70p a litre.

I haven't tried it, but I've read on VW forums it's the same fitting and the flow rate into cars is slower as there some sort of device fitted to the AdBlue filler neck on trucks that tells the pump to dispense it faster.

On our car (VW Tiguan) the filler is buried under the boot floor and the spare has to be removed to get at it. It probably only takes a minute but I wouldn't fancy faffing about in the truck area of a filling station.

You could fill easily on the forecourt on a C Class. The Adblue filler is right next to the fuel filler. I put 10litres in today and it went in really quickly. Just a plastic nozzle so was worried about spillage and have no idea how full the tank is now. Think it comes on with 3litres left? Found some places on line offering 20litres for £20 which seemed OK assuming it's the same stuff.

We've got stacks of the stuff at work, helps having 40 trucks using it

Think the tank in a C class is around the 24L mark. You get (approx) 1000 miles per litre.
Had mine done today, 3000 miles short of its second service. Had to use the dealer as its a lease car, we can't expense it, and it isn't allowed on the fuel card.
Took them 2 hours because "we have to do a full health check and recalibrate the adblue sensor...."
They charged GE (Now owned by Arval) £257

I can only imagine they authorised a completely absurd charge like that as they regard it a consumable so will be billing the lessee (your employer?).

Mine was allegedly serviced and checked before I bought it. 11k miles later the warning comes on so surprised (not).

I've bought two lots off Amazon for £20 each. So far so good, large container so you've got to be steady and balanced when tipping upside down but the nozzle screws on to minimise risk of spillage.

I've had conflicting reports of filling at Merc between services and my lease company said flat no so if I'm paying then I'm not spending stupid money.

42,000 miles in for my C250 and all ticking over nicely.

Slightly off topic but having only had my S205 C250 BlueTEC for a few weeks (late 2014 model), I notice that when I switch the engine off and get out, there's a soft ticking noise from somewhere below the area under the filler cap for about 15 - 20 seconds.

I asked at the dealers and they scratched their head and said it's probably the exhaust cooling down?! Seems unlikely, given that its a fast regular ticking that lasts a while then stops. I wondered if its the addblu pump doing its thing?

Any other C250 BT owners noticed the same?

A member above has mentioned the awkwardness of filling the AdBlue tank in a Tiguan. Darn right! Our Tiguan is a Motability car for my husband so I have to get the bottom panel out of the boot area, then both of us shove up the spare which we hold up with a stick, then with immense care, I try to locate the nozzle and fill the tank, very heavy. Next time I think I'll decant from my 10 litre container (£12.99 at a local BP garage) into a 1.5 litre (£9.99 at same place). Expensive in the short term but less exhausting.
